eBay Seller's schtick . . .
. . .For sale is a 1971 Porsche 911 S Targa. The car is a matching numbers car with both engine and gearbox matching the COA. The cars vin number is 9111310430. The engine number is 6310864. Paint code is 8010 metallic silver, but the car is currently finished in correct Porsche black code 1010.
The car has 119k documented original miles, and is an original California car, that was delivered with factory air conditioning. The car is still in California today. The A/C has been removed for performance and aesthetic reasons, but all components will come with the car. The under dash vents are in excellent shape with no cracking . A/C was a fairly rare option on Targa models.
The interior of the car is amazingly original, and has never been restored. The dash is perfect with no cracks. Original leather sport seats are in very nice shape with amazing patina and are date stamped 1970. The Door panels are in very good shape, and door pockets are driver quality or better. Carpets are in great original shape, with only some wear where the drivers feet would rest while driving. It still has its original Becker and Becker manual. It has a nice leather Racemark wheel, that was installed in the late 70’s, so it has excellent matching patina. All seatbelts are matching date codes and original to the car. The rear seating area is in very good condition with all upholstery in good shape.
The exterior of the car is also in very nice shape. The repaint was performed in the late 70’s by Cavalino Rampante, of Ferrari restoration fame, and was done to a high level with original Porsche 1010 Black. It does have some blemishes and scratches, but this was a driver, and the paint is over 30 years old, but it still looks very respectable. Bright work is in exceptional condition and shows that the car was always well cared for and garaged. There is very little sign of rust, only a small bit of bubbling under the drivers headlight bucket. All other structural areas are in very good shape, including floors, jack points, and around the rear Targa glass. The Targa bar is in excellent condition, as well as most of the rubbers on the car. The Top is also in good condition, and all latches function very well. All glass is original Sigla. The car has Porsche dealer installed through the grill fog lights, as well as Cibie hood lights. All panels are very straight with good gaps.
The mechanicals for the car are very good. The engine was built and massaged to 2.7 RS spec by none other than Jerry Woods using all factory components, and this is documented. At the time of the build it received a factory Lestritz dual outlet sport muffler, that sounds amazing. It retains a perfectly functional MFI fuel system, that just had all six injectors installed new $$, and the entire fuel system was cleaned and serviced. Engine performance is robust. The distributor was removed, cleaned and reset. Current compression numbers are as follows. #1 130, #2 140, #3 140, #4 140, #5 140, #6 130. The engine has also had a full service, and a new engine sound pad installed, and is ready to go anywhere. The transmission is in perfect shape and shifts very nice, and is filled with Swepco. Brakes and chasis are good with a just completed brake service which replaced the master, and brake lines, and all new fluid. The date stamped matching 74 Carrera wheels were just completely refinished by Wheel Enhancement, and are perfect in every way. Tires are also new.
All records will come with the car, as well as its complete tool kit, and owner’s manuals for the car and Becker radio. Note, the radio does not currently power up. All in all this is a very nice 911, and a true S model with matching numbers. It drives and runs very nice as is, and has a stance and look that is uniquely sporting for the Targa modeI. It has been very well cared for it’s entire life, and is amazingly original but with true period correct sporting additions. Don’t miss this opportunity to own one of the most rapidly appreciating cars in the collector car world, for a lot less than $125k. I was the seller who listed the car on EBay. It didn't sell on there but I later sold it to the current seller offline for quite a bit more than the $42k closing bid. Since that time it looks like he did some cleanup, refinished the wheels, installed H-1's and a overall did a nice job with it. Based on what he paid me for it + his updates he didn't lose money but didn't make a killing. I'm just glad the car keeps getting better!
Looks like a nice car. Early S factory A/C targa with the A/C pieces removed but included and a few sporting goodies? Yes, please.
