Wood trim on dash

I am the second owner of a 1970 911, purchased in Monterey when new.
I was told by the original owner that he purchased the wood trim on the dash as an option, offered only for one or two years.
Anyone have any knowledge of this?
I will include a pic if I have luck in posting.

Did the previous owner he also say he purchased the seats and gearshift boot and the horn button with the colored crest at the same time?

Looks like a lot of aftermarket product going on in there John. The wood may have been purchased through the dealer as an aftermarket piece, but I've never seen one as a factory option on a LWB before.
Looks like the original basket weave is peeking out next to the glove box emblem.

I have nothing productive to add to your question, but I also have been curious about wood veneer on the dash. I have a 70 t Targa with the wood veneer as well. I have read quite a bit about this and it seems this was probably added by the dealer. My car was delivered/ordered with the "s" appearance group and retains all it's original pieces with no aftermarket changes and the wood veneer is clearly original, well based on it's tired appearance. But, as the OP questioned,...I'd love to know if it was original. My COA doesn't mention the trim except as it refers to the "s" option group. Still, I think it looks kinda neat, so I'm removing and I'm going to attempt to re-do it.

The original owner is 6'7" and had a Momo extended wheel on the car.
I am using the one you see until I find the right one.
I do have the original seats but he found the ones in the car better suited to his length.
The car will go back to stock over time, but the wood dash will stay if it was available originally.

I would say after market, especially considering the way it has been finished around the glove box insignia, and the heater controls.

No criticisms, I was just pointing out that given the POs wilingness to put aftermarket parts in the car, the wood may very well be aftermarket as well.
As I mentioned before, I've never seen original wood in an LWB.

In the 70s we had wood (and turned stainless) aftermarket dash fillers available for both 911s and 914s. They were a dealer installed item. I did not see them available through the Porsche ordering system. We caught some flack for selling/installing them (and wood wheels) because it was the era when the interior police didn't want wood splintering upon impact. Didn't sell too many.....but some.
