Well, this has been a very hard decision for me, but I decided to have Paul help me sell my beloved 912.

Anyway, here is his write up and pics. Please contact Paul as I am not great at responding to emails quickly.

    Thanks.

912s have been rapidly gaining in popularity. What was once seen as a less expensive alternative to the 911 and a better balanced/handling car, has now started to appeal to collectors. Because prices still don’t warrant a full restoration on most 912s, it’s becoming more difficult to find original unmolested examples. The 1969 912s are highly sought after because they were the last year of the long hood; the only model with the longer wheelbase; and, the lightest body.

A 65-year old woman purchased this 912 new in Southern California at Truman Motors (VW and Porsche) of El Cajon, CA. The original owners mostly serviced the car at Continental Motors of Oceanside (we still have the original dealer license plate frame). She drove the car for 20 years and then passed away. The family sold the car to the 2nd owner: another 65-year old woman. This owner lived in San Diego and kept the car for nearly 20 years until she too passed away. Her children stored the car for a couple of years until they sold it to the current owner: Jeff Tighe of TP Motorsports. Jeff is a talented vintage German auto restorer. He had been bugging me for years to find him a clean 3-guage 912. However, this 1969 example was just too good to pass up. It was clean and unchanged for most of its life. It had light use with no signs of abuse. It just needed some minor service. Plus, both owners saved all the records from day one!

With the help of the father and son team of Tony and Marco Gerace of TLGauto.com, the following services were performed to get the car in tip-top running condition:

New wheel bearings (all 4 wheels)
New brake pads and rotors (full fluid flush)
    Oil cooling hoses
Major service: spark plugs, adjust valves, tune carbs, and oil service
    New windshield
New front and rear window seals
    New Michelin tires
Installed Vintage H4 Euro headlight bulbs.
    New shifter bushings
    New Coco mats

This 912 drives fantastic. The steering is light and the car shifts with ease. It is probably one of the best driving older Porsches I’ve experienced. It is evident that this car was well loved and never abused. One of the things that makes this car so nice is it’s well documented history. Nearly every receipt from new was saved as well as a full documented spreadsheet of most of it’s repair history (see photos). Also, we have every California registration form from each year since new.

The original bill of sale from Truman Motors shows the following was ordered for this 912:

    Chrome Wheels
    Bumper horns front and rear
    Tinted side windows and windshield
    AM FM Blaupunkt Radio
    Muffler Guards

The car was repainted well over 20-years ago. It shows some light patina and age, but I think it adds to the charm. The correct date-stamped wheels are chromed and some of the chrome is flaking away. The interior is equally as nice and very original. It appears that everything is original. The dash has two small cracks near the speaker cover and one near the defrost vent. They are very small. The door pockets are warped. All the gauges work properly as well as the original Blaupunkt radio. However, the radio antenna does not go up.

The front pan has some light/minor rust. It doesn’t need attention now, but down the road it should be addressed. The left front headlight bucket also has some minor rust by one of the headlight adjusters. The bottom of the driver’s door by the seam has a small rust crack as well. Other than that, the body is very straight and it is obvious that it was a well cared for Southern California Car. There are no signs of accident damage or any other signs of miss use.

*As a side note, recently, Porsche NA used this 912 for a video shoot. It will be for the launch of the new Porsche 991 C4S model. The video will be part of the promotion for prospective buyers*

This Porsche comes with owner’s manuals, original sale brochures, original dealer license plate frame, all records, original spare, jack, and complete tool kit.
