Thread: Braid 7R offset question.

    Braid 7R offset question.

Pelican and maybe others are now selling a 15" x 7" Fuchs look-alike wheel by Braid which appears likely to appeal to many. Importantly, it is available in a custom offset. I asked my question there but thought I'd raise it here as it may be of interest to some of you.
To run 225's at the rear of an early narrow body no flare car many run the 7R 49mm offset wheel together with an adapter, usually near 15mm, to "undo" much of the increased offset. So why not just order a set of these Braids with 49mm minus 15mm or 34mm offset to begin with? Anyone see anything wrong with this?

Sounds like a good idea. But how will it happen? Will they add the 15mm to the thickness of the pads? If so you will need longer studs (the most work in a wider track IMHO). If they counter sink the lug holes so you can use the stock studs, you will loose the look of the original wheel that they spent so much effort to obtain. Either way, it would be nice to have a bolt on application.

Anyone know if these Braid wheels are Forged or Cast ?

Saw their clip on a you-tube segment once, but do not remember if this question came up ????

They emphasized the deal they were made for off road rallyes and were a tough wheel, but can a super strong wheel that bends not cracks and breaks like a cast wheel , be accomplished without heat and pressure / forging ?

They are cast. Except the lip.... The wide ones have a rolled lip welded on the cast back. At least the ones that I have seen.

Yep. A mate over here experimented with anodizing Braids but only the lip works - too much silicone in the centre area indicates a cast piece. He settled for paint. Still great looking wheels though.
