Yes, the cover plates currently have black oxide socket head cap screws that have a bit of surface rust, I have a new set of Zinc plated screws on the way. Black oxide in my opinion is almost worthless as far as any corrosion protection is concerned, don't know why they were used...

I have had the same problems with re-doing black oxide, I wonder why the old original stuff that is black does not surface rust as easily?? Different method or something. Certain bolts and many split washers were originally black on Porsches. I would love to find a way to make parts black without the fear of future surface rust. Right now I am putting clear paint over the back oxide and that works quite well but its an additional process - adds time and $ to the work.

    Beautiful calipers!
FWIW my PMB restored calipers had the black oxide bolts turn orange a little after a month of use. Fortunately it's easy enough to swap these out.
    Good luck with your sale!

I'm sure it has to do with the method of how the black oxide is applied. Eastwood sells a do it your self kit that is pretty much useless, rust appears almost the next day. Last year we restored the drive-line and suspension on the ex Eric Clapton Lancia Astura and we had all the hardware done in black oxide by Queen City Plating and it turned out very stunning! While fairly expensive, about the same cost of cad plating it still looks great with no rust in sight.
