    Headlight switch question

The headlight switch on my 73 911S has failed. The rheostat for dimming the lights is all but disintegrated.

I ordered a new switch from THE source-Stoddard and installed it. My first impression was it seemed something was wrong in that before the switch reached its first detent (parking lights position) the parking lights came on. Pulling a little further then the first detent is reached. Pulling further all the way out and the headlights come on. What concerns me specifically is one could pull on the headlight switch and see the parking lights come on, but then they will go off by themselves. With as much current going through these switches I don't want any arching or inappropriate half/on and half/off action. Note: Once puled to the first detent all is good.

I wouldn't worry about this too much but when checking the old switch, this vague in-between off and first detent doesn't exist. I called Stoddard and Pete said he'd check their other switch in stock and he stated it does the same thing.

My questions: Is this a bad switch? Or will it just work itself out? Should I return it and source from somewhere else?

Thank you in advance for reading my concerns here,
