Simple 73 (or poss 72) seat belt question.

In restoring my 73 S's seat belts (and taking out the competition belts) I realize that the PO may have moved the latch (inboard) on the seat mount. (I have sport seats)

My question is- does the latch/receiver fit outside the seat mount or inside the attachment to the seat?

BTW I removed the comp belts because they were tearing up the recovered seats and I disocvered that since the PO didn't know proper installation drilled out the eyelet.

Wouldn't want to rely on this in a head-on collision!

    Thanks for the help,

The latch goes on the inboard side. The tag end of the belt goes on the outside.

So other than David's custom location, stock is on the inside: between the bracket and the seat.

    Thanks,

It is between the hinge and the seat on the inside. The tag end goes between the hinge and seat on the outside. It works just fine on the "custom" installation pictured, though.

My nut is welded on to the custom bracket so I don't have a choice. Do you still have the wire attached to the receptacle?

Yes, the seat belt warning connection I believe.

As back ground this all started when I was re-webbing the drive/passenger seat belts and removing the competition lap belts. I was removing them for three reasons- they were starting to chafe the recently recovered seats (!), I wanted three-point belts not just two and I noticed that the eyelet on the comp belts was drilled-out so they would fit the existing bolts. See my 2nd picture. Kinda stupid. Doubt they hold in a severed accident.

So .... when removing the bolts to install the re-webbed stock belts I saw that the inner bolts for the seat belt latch had inner nuts. The outers didn't. This additional nut is fine with me as long as it doesn't damage the seats or in someway render the seat belts from working correctly.

Kinda of long winded here .... sorry about that.

    Thanks for the responses,

Inside. As on my '73 sport seats also. However, I haven't got that big bolt shown in the previous two photos.
Mine looks like the bolt head is inboard and threads into the bracket?

Your bracket looks stock to me. It is just turned backwards and mounted to the seat stands, not under the seat tracks like they would mount if your were using stock seats.. That is the way most non stock seats work with stock brackets. They work just fine that way.

    Regards

PS: I just read what I just posted and now I am now more confused than ever!

So how does one extract the bolt? It doesn't make sense that the bolt head would be next to the seat cushion.
