    Removal of 3M Yellow Glue??

Hey guys, what is the best product to remove that yellow hardened glue goo from 3M? I have tried mineral spirits and brush cleaner to very little success. I have a fairly large area to clean up. It is where a PO glued the rubber threshold onto the outer sill. There is a lot of glue residue on the rubber threshold and on the painted sill too, so I need something that won't damage paint.

What does the collective experience here recommend? Thanks.

Scott, have you tried a heat gun and a plastic scraper?

I found the 3M adhesive removers works well. They make several variants of this type of product. Also, using carefully the Googone style stuff can work but tend to be stronger than the 3M products.

Sometimes leaving a saturated rag sit on an area softens, but again be cautious to not go too far and damage a surrounding area.

3M has an adhesive remover that comes in a spray can. I've used it several times in the past and works great without damage to the paint. Unfortunately I can't recall the specifics but 3M web site should have it listed. Never a fun project but always looks great when your done.

Rub in gently. Don't rub exessively. Let the product soak in and soften it up for removal.

Not unless I want to remove the paint (don't) or melt the rubber threshold (don't). Too aggressive.

You won't remove paint with the heat gun, you Sally. If you hold it an inch from the paint at the highest setting...maybe.

I've done it. I works in getting the bulk of it off, then follow up with the 3M stuff once it's soft and there's less of it.

I just used a crc product that is citris based for removal of sticker glue from products. Worked really well and better than having solvent smelling out the shop

I have used the 3M stuff in the red can as Greg pointed out in post 5, and it does Work really well.

Also had an old can of something called "PrepSol" I used to strip off old wax and pollutants, acid rain residue, tree sap, bird scat and such, on British and German cars that I used to buy and sell on. It would also work well on small patches of rubber windshield sealant and glue on rubber or paint with no damage.

Don't know if this is still available or not......
