I didn't actually work on my car, but I did drive the 72S at the PCA autocross today. I also instructed and did my first drive in a PanAmera. Although I did beat the owner to prove my point of smooth is fast I will say that you feel every bit of the car's weight, it is NOT tossable like our rear engine stone age cars, and you gotta start the turn EARLY! Even with all their 'nanny' overrides you cannot defeat physics,,,,,all that mass does not want to change direction quickly. All that said it can get around an autocross quicker than I would have guessed.

Got out the 993 today for a run to the hardware store (drove the 73 to Cars & Coffee yesterday so it's been excercised). 50 yards or so down the street I heard a thump from the rear; I knew I had a flat. I turn around and pulled back into the garage and spent the next hour getting my jack stand under the rear driver side jack point so that I could remove the wheel. A big screw was the culprit, but worse than that I demo'd the inside edge of the tire in that 80 feet or so that I drove. New rears tomorrow from Discount Tire; maybe a complete set as I don't think Bridgestone S-03's are available any more.

I finished up the 3.2 install in my '74 this week and spent today test driving and looking for details to fix over the holidays.

Last year I went to the Porsche Performance Driving School outside of Atlanta -- they had the Panamera on the autocross layout and we did hot laps with the instructors -- intense. Then they took us out on the main track, some of us in Panameras again. I sat in the back seat -- gut wrenching to have a pro driver going at 9/10's in one of those!

    -drove it a bunch.

-the speedo was making a weird buzzing sound, took it out. shot some poly lube into it and put it back in.. not sure if the buzzing sound is gone... I don't think so. I need to buy some gasket sleeves for it and some rear screw bolts for it.

    - polished anything exterior chrome and Targa bar.

    - got into the smuggler box and swept it out. I found a shiny penny from 1970.

    - polished out that spare inflatable. Kind of wondered if it would actually work in a pinch. I've never seen those filled up with air. have you?

Blew kisses and winked at it. Also, may have let a few cat calls slip out.

Yet she did not respond to your advances, no? Ahhhh, l'amour mécanique... cold and indifferent until prodded in just the right places.

Sunday afternoon? Well, I installed a new speedo cable in a '71T that has been in hibernation for a few years... But didn't do a thing to the '69 but use the roof as a table for the shop manual for a second. And admire my original hood mounted Cibie Palas as I walked by it...
