    Rear Window Trim installation question

My 68 came sans chrome window trim. I've got the pieces but I'm looking for help on the best way to install. Would it be best to pull the window VW style and mount the trim while the gasket is loose or install in place? Thanks for your help.

Definitely one of the more frustrating do it yourself jobs. You will have to pull the glass and set the aluminum trim into the rubber seal while the rubber is inserted on the glass...then it's the ole rope install trick. It's easier with a new factory rubber seal. Good luck!

Thanks for the speedy reply. No wonder the PO left it off.

And if .... As seems to always happen to me .... some of the trim decides to come out of the rubber seal while you perform the 'old rope trick' then you might want to read the thread below. Hard to convey the euphoria ..... and the relief at not having to take the screen out again ..... that this little invention brought about.

    Good luck

P.S. both front and rear seals were Porsche OEM, so even that is not a guarantee of ease to the amateur.

It has been my experience that the aftermarket seals make it very difficult to install the trim strips, especially in the corners. ALWAYS use original type seals.

We tried two times to install a windshield with the customer supplied aftermarket rubber, (while he's watching) I then told him we will now use the genuine article, and of course it went right in! There is a DIFFERENCE !!
