    Early SWB mirror locations

Hallo. I am looking to relocate the mirror(s) on my '66 coupe.

They were replaced and moved in 1973 to look more modern (!).

I have some Talbots en-route and wanted to have precise measurements of where to locate the receptor holes.

The doors are early (I am not certain they are original, though they could well be).

On the passenger side, there is no evidence of earlier holes filled and I have not dismantled the drivers door just yet.

    Can anybody help out here?

    Thanks!

There are mirror bolt access holes on the inside of the door frame, so the mirror will go in that approximate position, however don't use those same holes on the passenger door for mirror position. That only works for right hand drive cars. The correct right side mirror position will have to be determined by sitting in the car while someone positions the mirror so you can see the right hand lane. The mirrors are NOT symmetrically positioned.

Great tip. Especially true with the earlier cars with opening vents.

I agree with Ed as regards to door mounting. Take a look at page 1 of Dr. Brett Johnson's Restorer's Guide to get an idea of where the passenger side Talbot needs to be mounted on the door (sure looks like it would interfere with the moveable vent window of a SWB car...) However, if you want a symmetrical look, Talbot mirrors can be (and often were) mounted on the fenders. Sit in the car and have the SO move the driver side mirror to an appropriate position (probably in front of the fuel door). Then see if the passenger side mirror works in the same spot on the other fender. Keep moving them around until both sides work for you. Lore has it that the factory used this exact procedure on some of the SWB race cars.

My 67 had the passenger side mirror dealer installed when the car was purchased. It's on the sales receit. Unfortunitly they installed it on the passenger door in the same spot as the drivers door. I can't see ANY part of the mirror frame let alone the actual mirror. When I have a passenger I tell them to feel free to use it as it's useless to me. If I ever repaint the mirrors will be moved.
