Brown is a having a bit of a resurgance at present longer term it will probably always limit your resell market.

--Agree, and tbo it's not a colour I love. I suppose I could eventually do a full repaint but that's expensive (not to mention blasphemy among the purists!)

Skip the brown one then - a colour change on an original car leaves you in no mans land...

I can't understand the brown haters out there - it's not an awful colour when it's all cleaned up and off-set by the brightwork!

Nick, where abouts are you located, and do you have a specific model and year in mind? The whole T, E, S thing will make a bit of a difference; as will Targa vs Coupe. I'm beginning to see Targas as a bit of a steal if you're after a pretty weekend jalopy. I am aware of an Aussie delivered original condition yellow '72 T coupe - quietly for sale up here in Brisbane...

John, I'm in Sydney but travel to Melbourne and Brisbane pretty regularly for work. My ideal would be a 72E or 73E. The S cars are beyond my budget now (Paul Stephens in the UK has a 1972S for sale at 95,000 pounds!! http://www.paul-stephens.com/Porsche-911-2.4S/car4117).

I'm a coupe man, don't think the Targa is for me, though from what I can see you're right about them being good value.

I agree - but they appeal to a smaller %age of buyers and thus value goes down/time to sell goes up.

I really shouldn't comment on colour - I'm thinking Royal Purple next (AND a targa...), plus you know my feelings on yellow...

I actually edited my previous post... I originally has something like "shut-up Curnick" when I mentioned yellow

Nick, it's good you have a clear picture in your head on what you're after... I started looking for a white SC and came home with a blue '69 long-hood with a sportomatic engine

PS PM me if you want the details on the 72 T coupe - I think it's still available.

    Nick,

You need to have a clear idea of what you want, but you should not be so rigid in your requirements - that when a good car comes up, you don't dismiss it out of hand.

I was looking for a 911sc, and ended up with a Carrera 3, then I was looking for a 912 and ended up with a swb Aussie delivered 911L Coupe!

Ryans advice is sage - obviously a mechanical ppi is required, and in that the mechanic can give you some idea of the the integrity of the car... but a body inspection woul also be very useful. That way you go in with your eyes open.

I'm also in Sydney so feel free to drop me a pm if you like.

Thanks Justin. I'm still in "learning mode" so won't rush into a decision-- every time I read something new my preferences change at the moment! Started out thinking about a 993, now I want a 1970-73 . . .

    A few more tips:

    1. If you see something you like that is in a "tick-the-boxes" spec (e.g. coupe, aussie del/factory rhd, LWB, non "challenging" colour etc) then be prepared to move fast as you are unlikely to be the only person interested. I put a friend onto an aussie, 2.4E sunroof coupe in silver last year. He immediately placed a deposit subject to a good ppi, had the car inspected, did the deal. The whole thing was done in only a couple of days.

    2. Visit the dealers/private sellers and test drive as many cars as you can - even the LWB 69-73 cars have differences. And don't be shy in asking other owners for a drive/ride - you may be pleasantly surprised.

    3. Targas are cool. A sepia brown targa is freezing. A chartreuse targa is so cold it will burn your hand if you touch it...
