WTB: used tan leather seat covers.

Ok, I know this one is a bit strange, but I like patina and the smell of old German leather. My leather seats are in decent shape for the most part. They need to be re-stitched, re-padded and the re-dyed, but that's the easy part. The hard part is finding some old seats to recommission or recycle to come up with a few sections of the perforated leather to use to patch my seats. So if you have some old TAN leather hides that are partially workable let me know. I only need a few pieces to make it all work. My car is a 1973 911S. Sepia brown with Tan leather. Also see my post looking for tan carpeting and tan vinyl. Thanks

Check with the interior places like Tony at Autobahn Interiors in San Diego, they might have some used pieces laying around or can keep their eye out as seats come in.

Think you are probably on the quest for the holy grail. Went nuts looking for the beige vinyl for my '68 912. First problem was distinguishing between beige and tan. What I would call tan was what Porsche called beige. What Porsche called tan was a light almost brown color. Then they had another color called brown. Not sure how they designated it in 1973. Wound up buying 3 different beige '67-68 seats in vinyl. Just didn't do the trick for me. Went overseas to D'ester (sp?) and had sport seats made in leather. Perforated bolsters and basket weave centers. I wanted vinyl but apparently vinyl basket weave actually has to be extruded that way when made and cannot be pressed into the vinyl. Had to settle (aw gee whiz) for leather. They were able to match the beige color and both perforate the leather and actually press the basket weave into the leather. The agreed to do extra leather for me so that I could do '68 door panels. If you go to Tony Garcia's site he had and may still have up a picture of the door panels he made for me. Beautiful, but he required the pressed leather from Italy to do the job. Seats are a thing of beauty also.

Finally got the motor installed and Bob Fox is diagnosing an oil leak for me. Otherwise I would take some pictures of the interior. I'm sure my color is probably not quite what you were looking for, but you get the idea of what has to be done. Found one or two leather purveyors on the web but they wanted a lot of money to dye individual hides and a lot of money in my instance to run the basket weave pressing. I'm sure they were capable of perforating the leather but would probably be very expensive.

I don't want to discourage you but thought my perspective might help propel you in one direction or the other. Much good luck.

Hi Tom, thanks for the reply. I think the perforated inserts for my 73 seats is probably available but the leather would need to be aged or something to blend in w all the old leather. May be a better idea now that I think of it. I have considered aftermarket sport seats but they would need to be close to OEM. Not going to pay the amount that folks are getting for stock seats. Had a couple pair years ago, should have held onto them. As for the vinyl I only need tiny piece behind radio so will keep looking. Thx

Mark, I may have what you need for the radio area. I need a well lit closeup photo of the vinyl to confirm. I used what I have on my 73S for a perfect match. There seems to be some confusion on the the names for the colors. I think I have seen three colors with four or more names; brown, tan, beige and cinnamon leatherette. My car is an ROW Italian S with cinnamon leatherette on the cardex. It is not monochromatic but a lighter tan background with darker redish brown flecks and swirls over. It is exactly the color of a stick of cinnamon. Let me know with a photo and I'll cut a piece on the house. SS

ok just took some pics, I guess I was thinking of some other seats in bad shape...these are actually savable, no tears just depressions from storage. it would be a shame to use these to repair another. hard to see but they are full leather with the perforations nice headrests.
is this the same tan as your car, these I believe were 73 E seats
