    911T with S package

    Good morning all,

I was in Brumos Porsche over the holiday (my parents live near Jacksonville and my dad has been pondering a new Boxster), and got to talking about my '73 911T with the salesman there who seemed to be very knowledgeable regarding the older 911's and after talking to him some it seems my car has the "S Package".

It is a 73.5T, but it has the extra gages (gas/oil level and oil temp and pressure). he also indicated that the trim on the side of the car was the "S" trim. While I can imagine the gauges having been changed it would seem odd to change the trim.

He believed the other factors on the car that were different with the S package were swaybars (911T did not have them as standard) and "S" brakes (aluminum calipers). Can anyone confirm this? Were there any other differentiating factors? (he mentioned nicer carpet but my carpet has all been removed and scrapped).

Is there a way to tell via the serial number (VIN) if that is correct for the car, or if bits and pieces were retrofitted?

    Thank you,

This was a common option on T's, called "comfort package" in some years. Included the wider S trim, full gauges, but not the aluminum S calipers.

The only way to tell if your car originally came from the Factory with the S trim package is to get a CoA (Certificate of Authenticity).

The usual 'S Appearance Group' package included:

    F&R wide 'S' bumper trim
    Wide alumimium sill trim
    'S' gauges (except rev counter)

but any 'S' options except the engine could be ordered :

    'S' front spoiler ('72/'73 only)
    'S' front brakes
    F&R antiroll bars
    Koni shocks
    6x15" Fuchs etc

My car is in the shop right now so brakes and sway bars I'll have to check when it gets back

    Definitely has
    911 S instruments
I think it had Fuchs wheels originally... that is what the spare wheel is. Wheels on the car are non-standard.
    Aluminum Door Sills
    Chrome Rocker panels

According to the options list (for 1970 not 73) the appearance package had the badges in gold which my car does not have.
Also, my stock seats were vinyl but the headrests were (matching) leather. options list shows that leather headrests were an option only with leather seats.. Odd? At least i'm about 90% sure they are leather, will double check.

My 1972T I'm restoring came with all of that. S front bumper, S calipers, S trim, S gauges, anti roll bars. My COA does not list "S appearance Group" but it lists "Comfort Package", the sway bars, Koni Struts, Spoiler- The CoA's are kinda a joke. It lists my "S" Front spoiler as a "Rear Spoiler".
    Thanks,

My 72T had the S trim (appearance group) and S gauges...I have never heard of S calipers as an option on a 72 T.

You will need a COA from Porsche to confirm what is original. The comfort equipment on mine were the S gages, wider S moulding, chromed rocker panels, aluminum door sills, velour carpeting, and covered steering wheel. The front and rear sway bars were options. S alloy brakes would have been a separate option, mine are the standard steel calipers. The forged alloy wheels include all five Fuchs rims.

Brakes should be easy to check.. are the "S" brakes and standard "T" brakes interchangeable? I've seen conflicting information stating that you need to replace the suspension uprights due to different bolt spacing, but others have said no.

Probably S calipers came with the Koni shock option. S (and A) calipers are 3.5" bolt spacing while M calipers are 3.0"; thus requiring different struts.
