185/70/15, michelin xwx or pirelli cn36 would be most original.

Depends, the CN36 is a better tire than the Michelin if you are going original. But if you are actually going to drive your car I'd get a modern tire.

The Dunlop tires were junk from the beginning. We warranteed at least one on every car...some cars two or three. No wonder no one has reproduced them.
I agree with Hassman, Michelins are the best choice IMHO. Unless you go to modern tires, then 195/65X15 are the direct replacement.

The Michelins had very high grip in the dry, but with quick breakaway, aquaplaned at anything above 6o mph. The CN36 was almost as good as the Michelin in the dry, more progressive breakaway and very good in the wet. The Dunlops complete garbage.
Again though, tire technology has improved in the 40 years since these tires were produced so just about any tire applicable will substantially outperform any of the above.
Problem is getting something that will fit 15's, not much out there.

There is still a vredestein sprint classic in 185/70/15, only it has a H speed rating. Moving up to 195 offers much more choice.

I agree, we fit the XWX and use quite a lot. An order of 25 arrived recently, ouch!
Always buy the best - no flats, long wear, best ride. Worth the extra couple hundred bucks. Michelin for me.
