    SWB horn grill question

Ive got about 6-7 pairs of SWB horn grills.

    They are all original.

Im going to have them all sandblasted and re-chromed. My question is what will they be worth when Im done? Im trying to determine if its worth the effort.

    Thanks

Eric Linden / AFS sells very good reproductions for $75 each. Might not be worth your effort.

Eric's are done to a very high standard. Once the ravages of time have attacked the underlying casting, it'd be very hard (read expensive) to get an original to match his. Personally, I'd only consider redoing "originals" if they were original to the car I was doing.

I can understand retaining originals IF they didn't require refurbishing. It took me several years to find a nice original set in excellent condition for my '68.

However, now that Eric is offering high quality repros at $150 a set...total no brainer.

Yours would certainly be worth $100 for a pair if they are done to the same standard as Eric's (triple chrome, perfect etc).
Good luck with the restoration if you haven't done it before. I've always stayed away from redoing these at the advice of those who have. If you've got pitting, all the imperfections will need to be welded up and reground. The cast metal used for these is also supposedly very difficult to work with.

Post a progress thread if you decide to take this on. The process would be pretty interesting.
