Headlight high beam switch sticking need assistance

I have a 73 911 and the highbeam switch has worn out and continually switches on. Are ther any quick fixes or replacements that do not take a master mechanic?

I would replace the turn signal / high beam switch. In fact, I have done that on both my cars due to the same problem. Nothing like having your high beams come on when you hit a bump. Pretty easy to install and less than $200 from Pelican.

Of course not! The service manual would help, but its pretty straight forward. Disconnect battery. Take stuff off (steering wheel, switch cowl) until the switch is free, unplug a whole bunch of wires, remembering what went where, and then reversing the process with the new switch. The challenging wires as I remember are at the light switch, and feeding the wires/plugs in under the steering column (its been a few years since I last did this).

Edit: I looked at the manual. It doesn't add anything to what I said above other than a couple of pictures. Also, most of the wires terminate in plugs so they are easy. There are a few loose single wires to keep track of. I think if you can change your oil you can do this job.

Thanks a bunch. You know how these cars can be. An easy project turns into a 12 hr cussing contest.

I need to do this to my 73 T also. Highbeams come on when hitting a bump or having the directional on!

Changing the turnsignal/hi beam switch is just like changing your oil. It needs to be done a regular basis (every 35 or 40 years), you just do it less often and it isn't quite as messy.

    Regards

I like that Jim........... replaced mine 2 years ago, that would make it about 38 years and on schedule.....

I've done this twice and it's super easy. 5 years ago I replaced the turn signal stalk with a used one (NOT RECOMMENDED). The same problems came back. A few months back, I bought a new one for $176 and R&Red it. Easy peasy, nice and easy. The wire colors didn't match up as I recall. Also, the action is not even close to the same, you can tell it's brand new and aftermarket, at least, mine is like that. But, it works!
