I have some lines in the rear window defroster grid that are cut and will need repair. I saw that you can fix it with a kit like this

Anyone has experience with this type of repair?

I tried that years ago, didn't have any success, but I was trying to repair most of the grid across the glass. If you just have a cut you're fixing it might work. Virtually impossible (at least for me) to get those grid lines repaired for any length.

Hi Ed! Looking at it, and the hard access in a 911 y thought it would be hard :-) It is not a single cut, it will need work in many different places.
It's my experience that my back window defogger lines were not repairable.

I have used the kit to repair small breaks in the wire with ok success. The problem with our very old wires that there are numerous breaks in the line and you have to find/repair them all.
The paint needs to cure for about 24 hours.
How I locate a break, if I cannot see it:
Energize the defroster
Get volt meter and ground the negative lead
Starting at the powered end of the grid, slowly move down the wire until you find were the volage suddenly drops to zero. The break is between were power was found and not.
After repairing the break, let the paint cure and test again.
Very tedious if you have numerous breaks in a single wire.

I did it on my 914 window - there were too many breaks to count when I started. Taped under and over the line and just brushed on the paint. Double checked everything for continuity with a volt meter when I was done and everthing seemed to be ok. Car is still at the painter's so haven't tested it yet, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Is the paint the same color than stock?
