Grey or yellow material ... the black 'rubber' material was a later replacement.

I believe the 'L' shaped rubber ones were maybe SC and later... then possible later replacement for all.

The OE Early gas flaps were a coated-cloth like material (kind of like old rain gear) almost like what our parents used to call 'oilcloth' but not shiny...

    Like javadog's example...

I've seen them in grey, yellow, and kind of a yellow-orange.

    Hope this helps

Does anyone know where you can get a reproduction one that is true to the original. I have a '71 Targa that had a grey colored one and I bought one from International Mercantile and it is not of the same quality. Thanks!

    Not that I know of....

    - What I have on the car now:
Yellow/Grey … Very much like ejboyed5’s pic… I think this came off an early production ‘71E.

    - What came on my car originally:
    Yellow/Yellow …. Now very crispy

    - One I put on for awhile years ago:
Cheap Black rubberized plastic w/stamped texture… I think it’s what Performance was selling about 15 years ago.

My assumption is that the factory would acquire remnants of different color but same type of fuel resistant material and have it mass-die-cut into the flaps.

All the reproductions I have seen were/are done with either a rubbery plastic material or a neoprene-like rubber material probably because of its accessibility and cost… and that this material doesn’t get as crispy (brittle) as the originals. However I have tried the neoprene-like rubbery ones and after awhile they just tear in half....

Interesting what you try in 23 years of ownership…….
