    Question H1's & Rubik's Cube

I'm assembling four H1's from components that I have on
hand. Reminds me a lot of the Erector set I played with when I was a boy - or some of my grandson Jack's mind bending Lego sets. Things are coming along OK now that I've a way to cut off the screw keeps without damaging the screws. I use a Dremel with a large cutting wheel.

As I near completion of the first pair, is there a way to at least roughly aim these using a bench mount in the shop? I'd just the get them in the ballpark so they will require only fine tuning once they're mounted in the cars they're going in.

Has anyone developed a procedure for doing this?

    Thanks,
    JohnA

Have done a couple of sets.

Those tiny ring screw keeps.....I just pinch them from oval to round with needle nose pliers and the screws twist free.

The big issue was the one adjusting crew passing through the trim ring that is crimped to the spring adjuster. I ended up cutting the screw mid-shaft and then had my machinist fabricate some 20mm long hex tube nuts. I use those with lamb nuts to put that long screw back together after re-chroming the trim rings.

My reflectors were not perfect, but good enough. The whole re-silvering process would be a HUGE challenge...getting bulb holders out, etc.

Would be interested if anyone has jumped that hurdle?????

Pinching the keepers has proven to be really difficult for me - you must be a surgeon. I cut them with a Dremel and I'm able to do it without damaging the screw.

I've been able to remove the screw from the spring adjuster most of the time but, as you say, it can be a bear. I like your solution.

John, what are you planning on using to hold the adjustment screws in place when you reassemble? I restored a SWB headlight set and also had a bear of a time with those keepers. I replaced with an plastic nut, but that has proven to not work long term. I may just run an elastic stop nut or a pair of SS nuts in place of the keepers.

I'm using the H1 kit from Sierra Madre and that's what they supply. Spendy but very nice kit and worth it for H1's.
