Clarification:
I apologize for not providing a better description of these manuals, I thought most folks new about shop manuals. I have been getting a lot of questions regarding which model year these manuals cover, so I thought I would take a stab at an explanation here and others can correct / add on as required to best describe how the shop manuals worked.

When the 911 first came out, Porsche came out with shop manual Volumes I & II, then as the 911 evolved, supplemental volumes were added. However, these supplemental volumes do not stand on their own, but are building blocks on the first 2 volumes. By 1972, there were additional volumes 3 - 8 and the suggested shop time volume. In addition, there were spare parts catalogs for various years.

Volumes I & II are the first two volumes. If you are looking for shop manuals for your 1970 for example, then you would want these first two and all of the supplements up to 1970.

I believe after 1973, the factory supplements have yellow covers and came to the mechanics loose bound for them to insert in maroon binders. I think this practice continued until the 964 came out at which time a whole new series of shop manuals were published.
