    Oil cooler advice needed

The engine-mounted oil cooler on my 67 911 appears to have developed a pretty good leak. A few questions: Is the reproduction sold through Pelican the customary fix? Can the cooler be changed without removing the engine? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Don't know about the Pelican cooler, but the cooler can be changed with the engine in place (unless you have some other engine in the car,,,you didn't say otherwise) by removing the black metal plate at the top of the cooler, the side sheet metal piece, and the heat exchanger.

All the reproduction coolers I've seen are garbage.

All the aftermarket replacement coolers I've seen popped within a few thousand miles, and they are so poorly manufactured that they don't allow the removal of the #3 spark plug with the valve cover in place.

I wouldn't hesitate to spend twice the cost of a new, reproduction cooler on a good, used original part (pressure tested and cleaned, of course).

remove cooler and send to pacific oil cooler for repair www.oilcoolers.com

Do not be afraid to drop the engine, it takes an hour once you have mastered it.

Wow, not much doubt about what to do: I'll pull the cooler and send it out for repair. Thanks for the input; I really appreciate it.

Update: I pulled the cooler out today. Holy smoke, that's a tight fit! It's off for repairs next week. I'll report back after it's reinstalled.
