    Hiding speakers...

I picked up a radio to put in the empty hole in my dash. I also bought the RS door cards. I dont want to cut them up or add a huge stereo or anything like that and I definitely dont need hifi or even "in stereo". I just want to listen to talk radio propaganda and podcasts for the most part. what have you guys done to hide speakers under the dash or elsewhere?

this is what I got.... .

Some guys put speakers in the front kick panels, below the dash, in front of the doors, where the factory has map pockets, I believe you can get 6 1/2s in there.

Honestly, I'd suggest perforating your RS door panels, or doing a custom acoustically 'transparent' fabric in a custom way on the panels....6 1/2's in the door will sound far better than anything else.

Otherwise, a cool approach is the back seat delete, storage bin, which could be modified with some midrange speakers, but you'll still need some audio fill from the front, so that dash speaker grille could house a pair of 4" mid-highs.

this is what i have in my car http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Upgrade-...item3f210c648d

It fits in the stock speaker place in the middle of the dash....so long as you have a removable speaker grill it is an easy install
otherwise requires the dash out, which requires the screen out etc etc

it is not HiFi sound by modern standards but it is more than adequate for me to run the Ipod thru and would be for your intended use

I with you. I would like a very good sounding stereo, no it doesn't have to rattle my license plate. I am fascinated with these speakers if they would fit under the front seats- http://www.soundmove.com/speakers_and_amps.htm

Well, I definitely dont want anything in the back. I do like the idea of the door card idea though. I'll have to ask a friend that does that kinda thing if we can squeeze something in there. Like I said. low fi. What size speaker commonly goes in the door? I work about putting something down by my feet. I feel like I'd kick it in.

I dont think I have this option. Bummer. I wonder if something could be mounted near the glovebox facing down?

Years ago I saw a kit that had two speakers in a panel that fit under the dash. It tidied up the underneath dash area as well. Haven't seen it in years.

6 1/2's are an easy fit, and sound great in the doors

    Here's what you need. It's a Moch-1 Underdash Cover:

    http://www.moch-1.com/

Although John Moch has retired and moved to Oregon (my interior was his last one), it is my understanding he is still manufacturing his Underdash Covers and his Rear Speaker Enclosures. I have both in my car and can vouch for the quality of both the products and the sound produced. And no need to cut holes in your door panels or otherwise.

I got Hugh's set as well. I'm not looking to "bump", but I like to hear the iPod on occasion. Great option for me, and might be for you as well. It keeps the stock appearance, and allows the stock speaker to be replaced with something more current.
