Hi all,
Any issues against having an oil tank powder coated vs. just painting? I would have all the threads for the lines masked, but I'm curious if there is any reason I shouldn't do it.
Thanks,
Mauricio

Thanks Chuck. I did read through these, but I'm still not seeing if powder coating is a bad idea. The sandblasting is the cautionary part, however no one says weather the powder coating is good or bad.
Thanks!

I recently sent a tank to be powder coated and he wisely stopped the process when he noticed the solder holding the screen starting to get soft from the baking temperature. So I guess I'll spray paint it. I don't know if this will always happen, just be aware.

The sand blasting is always the sketchiest part of the process.
I prefer not to chance it ... we paint the 911 oil tanks.

CO2 blast it
I had mine hot tanked at a radiator shop and then rattle canned it.
Yes. Hot tanking removes paint as well as thoroughly cleans inside and outside. With proper surface prep, rattle can paint is fine. Powder coating is okay, but might be overkill and more costly to process unless part of a batch. Powder coaters understand the process adds substantial coating thickness and should mask large threads without asking, but ask first.
The debris screen and other mounting brackets are often loose from age. A radiator shop can repair by brazing, a normal procedure for them.
