Were MY 68 Interior Door Tops the Same as '67?

    Friends,

In the 'for sale' forum, juche namja has a pair of interior door tops that he indicates are MY68 and are not interchangeable with MY67. (see this post http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ront-Door-Caps)

Does anyone have any information about the changes to the door tops? I previously thought that they were interchangeable from '65-'73.

Let's have some input from the Scholars here!!

68 door tops are much different than 67s. It has to do with mating with the dash. The 68 door tops are thicker.

So, Jim in my picture I show two different 68 door caps. One that is similar to the 67 and flat on the thick end and one that has about a 3/4" inch bend. That leads me to believe there are two different dash pads?

There is only one dash pad in a 68 that I am aware of and of course it is unique to 68s. Your picture shows, what appears to be a 67 door top on the right. Look at the inside of the door tops near the door lock opening. The 68 should look very similar to the 67 but is wider at the front.

    Regards

Here is maybe a better picture of what I think is two 68 door caps, as mentioned above one flat and one with a slight bend.

It looks like you have a 68 and a 69 or later door top. The "69" one should have more padding on it and it doesn't have the shark's teeth on the inside around the door lock button.

Picture # 1 top to bottom
69 (notice there are no shark's teeth)
    68

    Picture # 2
    Left to Right

    67 911/912

    Picture # 3
top is a 69 or later door top with no shark's teeth
    Bottom is a close-up of a 68 with shark's teeth
