    FS: @Auto Kennel - Barn find 911 E....not mine

    Paul just came back from the Scottsdale car auction zoo and was telling me about some of the prices for early 911s...holy $%&*! This E has such a cool patina that it would be great if someone would get it running again.

    More 119200008 . . .

    VIN = 119200008
    Eng# = 6290034
    Trans# = 7090009

    From the AutoKennel site . . .

    . . . As soon as I saw this car, I found myself getting the itch to build a cool ratrod style early 911 hotrod. Besides being the 2nd oldest 911 E in existence and 8th built (per the 911 E Registry), the patina on the body had such a unique look to it. It almost looks like a painting the way the paint has peeled and left the raw steel with a swirled paisley-looking pattern. Just imagine throwing a set of early magnesium American Racing wheels on this 911…what a great look! . . .

    . . . The current owner found this car not to long ago with the goal of turning it into a nice driving “barnfind.” However, too many projects have gotten in the way. He purchased the car from a seller in the San Francisco area. The car had been in dry storage for many, many years. Other than that, we don’t know a much more . . .

    . . . Per the Certificate of Authenticity, this 911 E is the 8th built and has matching numbers engine. It came delivered with the following factory options:
    * Tinted Windshield
    * Tinted Rear Window
    * Bumper Over Riders (front and rear)
    * Antenna
    * Loud Speaker
    * Michelin Tires

    . . . The body (besides the paint) looks to be pretty straight with no signs of accident damage. The gaps are nice. The car appears to have rust on the jack points, along the rockers, front pan and in one of the battery boxes (see attached photos). The floor pan is dry. The floor and inside fenders were media blasted to show no rust. The front bumper is a fiberglass S-style bumper. The interior is in surprisingly good condition. The seats and headliner look great, as do the door pockets. The dash is severely cracked and there is an aftermarket radio installed. The carpet looks to have been replaced, but most of the rest of the interior looks to be original . . .

    . . . The engine appears to be very complete but looks as though it has not run in a very long time. We were able to easily hand crank the motor and it turns over without issues . . .

    . . . The car is wearing its original 14” Fuch wheels and has the correct spare as well. The Michelin tires appear to be well over 20-years old but do hold air . . .

    I agree, you routinely see these kind of items offered for free to current owner. It's really only valuable to one person.

    It's like charging someone $20,000 for their original engine case, just not cool.

    I would hope so, the listing reads "119200008 is your car, well, this is your lucky day isn't it?"

    Let's hope "lucky day" means free original paperwork to you car.

    It would be a nice gesture if JP did so, and perhaps what he meant in the ad. But that's not how it reads to me. Maybe he'll clarify :

    Is this paperwork worth anything to you? Probably not. So please don't buy it. Through the magic of Google, this ad is now going to show up whenever anyone searches for VIN 119200008. If that's what brought you here, and 119200008 is your car, well, this is your lucky day isn't it?
    A little different, but the same karmic idea: many years ago I found the 1958 Road America Harley Earl Trophy in a Palm Beach thrift store for 5 bucks. Engraved with winners Gaston Andrey, Lance Reventlow and Ferrari #0674.
    Collected dust on my shop office shelf for a looong time. At Cavallino one year, I decided it should go to whoever had the car. It was in a significant collection in France, but many attempts to connect with the gentleman failed.
    Ultimately it was reunited when the car sold a few years ago for $30+ million. Whether that trophy is of any significance to the new owner, I don't know but hey, it only cost me $5 bucks.
