    Help with purchase

I posted a WTB ad on our list and was contacted (Email) by a non member stating he had what I was searching for, he has nice pictures and a OK price.
I wanted to pay by Pay Pal but he said he did not have an account and would only accept Western Union. I do not know this person and being cautious.
Has anyone ever delt with STEVEN T HAUN from Elyria Ohio. He may be legit but Western Union set off the BS meter.
    Any Thoughts
    Thanks
    Bob

    no.

I would dare say that no form of payment is safe unless you meet the guy, with cash in hand, and see the car with your own eyes.

    sounds very shady.

Bob, spend the couple hundred $$ and fly out to see the car (IF this is indeed for a car purchase).

I almost fell for one of these tricks with a VW bus a couple of years ago. It all sounded great, he called me when I asked and sent me all kinds of detailed pictures. He, however, insisted on WU or a M/O. When I declined and asked for a bank account he even gave me that WITH HIS HOME ADDRESS! I then googled his name and low and behold - the guy ripped off dozens of people with the same bus. Luckily no money changed hands and I contacted local law enforcement of the place he gave me. I forwarded all the details on the transaction. Not sure he is still around now

There is software out there that searches for 'wtb' - you get some strange action on these ads. Asking for a picture of the car/item with today's newspaper on there usually shuts them up.

    Be careful out there.

Ditto! Fly out and do the deal in person. I flew from so-cal to Denver to see a car 3 years ago. I left a deposit, and flew home. Two weeks later, I flew back, and I completed the transaction while the car was loaded onto a transporter.
Yes, I spent $400 on airline tickets, for a $25,000 car. A good insurance policy, if you as me.
