Should this be a sticky? The full 2-hour movie is on YouTube in HD here:

Curt...cool...heck better quality than watching it on my DVD...and yes it should be a sticky
Maybe leave this heading but other related block buster big films associated to Porsche can be here. Ie. Senna film, CARs 2 or if James Bond ever drives a 911 anywhere.

It never gets old. Garfield and I were reminiscing about when the movie came out. I got the poster but never went to the theater to see it because I wasn't even old enough to drive. But because it was a flop at the box office, they started airing it on TV within a few years. Usually on an obscure UHF channel where you had to stand there with your hand on that crappy little hoop antenna to get any semblance of a picture. Even then it was all snowy. It would show up maybe every couple of years and I would drop everything to watch it, completely mesmerized! It's easier today.

In 1966 Grand Prix came out exclusively in L.A. at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood... I was 17
In 1971 Le Mans came out exclusively in L.A. (I think) at the Pantageus in Hollywood... I was 22
To get from my house in The Valley to Hollywood one could chose to go over the canyons and Mulholland Drive... duh
For the week of those two exclusive engagements we really lit up Mulholland Drive, Beverly Glen, plus Laurel, Coldwater, Benedict canyons.....and everywhere you thought you were James Garner or Steve McQueen
. fun in a much simpler time

Racing was certainly viewed differently then, both literally and figuratively! I saw Grand Prix in the triple-projection Cinerama format at the Golden Gate theater in San Francisco; it even came with a hard-bound program (discarded by my mom when I left for college -- sigh). I saw Le Mans three times on the big screen the first week of its release in June of 1971, and then got to see (and hear) Siffert Pedal a 917 at Laguna that October. I picked up the 40th anniversary BluRay at the Jonathan Williams/Michael Keyser/Hal Hamilton/Vic Elford/ Chad McQueen tribute dinner at Boys Republic. The quality on my big Sony HDTV/Dolby Digital set-up is superb (and I'm not trashing anybody's copyrights).
