    Dealer Description:

Per usual; German doesn't translate especially well via Google:

With this model, the incomparable, unique in the automotive history success story took its course. The "S" in its pure form, with a short wheelbase, Weber carburettors, taut chassis, and an engine that not only we call reference of thoroughbred sports engine. The "little" 2.0 liter boxer with appropriate valve control, compression and optimized gas exchange is the essence of everything that was trying to tell us Mr. Porsche. (I like this)

Whoever heard this aggregate ever under load about 4000 U / min, know what we want to tell you so. (Right on)

We offer a coupe factory supplied steel sunroof, restored fully documented 12 years ago and since then lay back about 15ooo km under the best possible conditions. Unfortunately, the original S-engine is matching numbers to the chassis, so therefore no matching numbers, but the correct motor from the number range of the model year 1968th (Darn it)

On the vehicle itself, there is nothing else to complain about. The underbody (in body color) offers complete freedom and rust apparently flawless reconstruction. The engine emits the chromium vied and currently contributes restored WEBER 40 IDS carburetor as crowns in yellow auslackierten engine compartment. Stainless steel heat exchanger of SSI, including stainless steel muffler round off the view from below.

Both the drive and the transmission are dry for Porsche ratios and cause the test run no flashy or even spurious noise. Brakes, chassis and suspension add a new, unused impression. Both the quality of the paint and the interiors are executed at a high level of craftsmanship. A Clubsport rollbar (Contemporary correctly!) And a retro trip (mechanical odometer) round out the perfect combination of all components.

Dear Sirs - more there is of it no more, and you remember our words, when we, for example, are looking for as soon as 2020 with a magnifying glass for these cars, because the few few S are long in knowledgeable collector-hand and no longer appear on the market. Even if it is a bitter pill to invest so much money - if you have "S", now would be the right moment.

This last sentence you get from us not to hear often, right? Also, because we want to avoid absolutely the inflationary use of the term.

But in this case we do just ne exception. Because we are convinced

Nice description. Kind of like reading the Kussmaul Chronicles.

We are pleased to offer 1973 Porsche 911S 2.4 Coupe s/n 9113300017. As the 17th of just 1,430 total 911S Coupes produced worldwide for 1973, this early-production 911S coupe marks the final production year of the small bumper - long hood 911s. Thanks to their light and effortless drivability and impressive linear power when they come on the cam, these early 911s take their owner-driver back to an earlier era, with the 2.4 litre 1972s and 1973s as the ultimate evolution of the original long hood - small bumper early 1970s Porsche 911 series.

911S s/n 00017 retains the correct and matching numbers 911S Spec engine # 6330029, matching transaxle # 330047, is still in its factory-original silver metallic with black leather and comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirming the matching numbers and matching colors. 911S s/n 00017 has a well-documented ownership history from new having been built on August 1st, 1972, and holds the distinction of being one of the first 911s imported to the USA in 1973. It was sold new to Dr. Bill Hardpongue of Kansas City, who retained it through the early 1990s before selling it to Danny Stewart and Scott Tyler, who disassembled 911S s/n 00017 for a light restoration. After accepting they were not Porsche specialists, 911S s/n 00017 was sold to Keith Innis, who planned on completing the restoration. Keith eventually accepted that he was also over his head in the restoration, and so sold 911S s/n 00017 to Phil Bagley of Klub Sport Racing, a well-known and highly regarded Porsche restoration specialist, who sold 911S s/n 00017 and completed the restoration. 911S s/n 00017 arrived as a complete tub, but with every mechanical component removed, and was treated to a bottom-up mechanical restoration including a full suspension, brake and shock rebuild with all hardware replaced, replated or powder-coated, while the lower pan and wheel wells were nicely refinished and undercoated. The transaxle was rebuilt, the engine was pulled and serviced and the interior was treated to a carpet kit, new trim rubber and a thorough detail and service for the new owner, completed in 2013. Because of medical reasons the new owner never took delivery, and so 911S s/n 0017 was sold on to the current owner.

911S s/n 00017 is in excellent cosmetic condition. It has been repainted to high standards in its original color when still with its first owner. The paint is excellent, with only a few small blemishes and a slight color miss-match on the passenger’s door. The body panels are very straight with great fit and gaps. The correct trim is present and very nice, and the chrome appears to be original and is excellent with no significant pitting in evidence and only light scratches. Comes with an excellent set of Vredestein Sprint Classic V rate tires, with a matching spare on the correct Fuchs alloy wheel, mounted on the original 6Jx15 Fuchs front wheels and the wider and more desirable 7Jx15 Fuchs rear wheels, all in excellent condition. The original 6Jx15 rears are provided as spares. The Vredestein Sprint Classic V rate tires are the correct modern replacements for the Pirelli Cinturato tires used when new. All lenses, lights and glass are in good condition. There is no corrosion and no sign of body damage or repairs. The interior and all leather panels and seats appear to be mostly original and in excellent condition. The dashboard is free of cracking, discoloration and warping, and the instruments and controls are all in fine shape. The door panels, rear seats, parcel shelf, visors and headliner are all excellent as well and are of the correct type and are original. The door panels appear to be new. The steering wheel is excellent.

The engine compartment and trunk are correct and nicely detailed. The engine compartment is very clean and retains the correct red fan shroud fitted to the “S” engines. The full intake equipment is in place giving the overall impression of an unmolested and very well cared for car. The trunk conveys a similar impression, with a new carpet set in place and with none of the holes usually found in the carpet near the battery. The battery box and suspension pan are excellent. The entire floor pan, wheel wells and undercarriage have been detailed and all are extremely nice. The chassis was repainted and is just about spotless, and there were no noted signs of accident damage or corrosion, past or present. The car runs and drives well and has the impressive linear power that established the 911S as the pinnacle of the 2.4 litre long hood - small bumper 911 series. The motor starts easily and the gearbox is excellent, even when cold. The steering is communicative and light and the brakes are powerful in the way that has made the 911 famous. The chassis is quiet, with no rattles and minimal wind noise and the wonderful sound of the flat six winding up.

This is an outstanding opportunity to acquire a wonderful survivor 911. This car is a desirable 911S from the last year of the long hoods, and is well-optioned in great colors. Thanks to the larger and torquier 2.4 engine, the 1972 and 1973 911S is a far easier car to drive in day to day traffic than the earlier 2.0 or 2.2 engines. In addition, the standard front chin spoiler significantly reduces front end lift at speed making the 1972-1973 911S the penultimate US-market first-generation 911 enthusiast’s car, surpassed only by the legendary Carrera RS. Add in the known history from new and superb original cosmetic condition combined with the highly detailed chassis and suspension, and this car is the perfect embodiment of a collector caliber early 911. It is complete with an original tool kit and an original owner’s manual. It is an excellent driver, making a strong cosmetic impression and performs well across the board. Priced right at $199,500 or best offer.

    Doug,

It looks like #334 Blue Metallic to me..... Maybe a little too dark and green in the pic.
HOWEVER, I never seen two that look the same in photos... (or next to each in person for that matter).....

    71S 2.jpg

    71S 3.jpg

    71S 4.jpg

    71S 5.jpg

    Auction Description:

The top-of-the-range 2.2 911S represented the ultimate development of Porsche’s original 911 engine and transmission design, retaining the short-stroke free-revving engine and ‘open road’ dog-leg transmission of the original cars, whilst benefiting from the larger cylinder bore, stronger clutch and transmission, much improved wiring and electrics, Fuchs alloy wheels and a discreet front spoiler. Relatively expensive in the UK they were a rare sight on British roads in the early Seventies, with only 44 examples sold in the UK in 1971, and of these the survival rate has not been good, with modifications, corrosion and some inevitable accidents taking their toll.

The car presented here is something of a local legend and was rumoured to be slumbering somewhere in the West Country for decades. Recently re-discovered in a dry lock-up garage, this left-hand drive car was manufactured on the 2nd March 1971 and sold in Germany before being imported and registered in the UK on the 2nd December 1981. For unknown reasons, the car was only used until 1984 when it was taken off the road having covered just 69,342 kilometres (an old MoT certificate indicates the car had covered 63,718 kilometres in 1983). In the years that followed, our vendor was approached by the then owner who explained that her husband had left her the car and she had little need or understanding of it. Our vendor eventually purchased the rather 'down-at-heel' 911 in the early 1990s with the intention of restoring it and moved it into his lock-up garage to start the restoration process. After removing some parts and replacing numerous panels the process stalled with life and business interests taking over, and that's how it remained until it was photographed only a few weeks ago.

Chassis #0785 is a survivor and is believed to be a matching-numbers car, coming with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. Our vendor tells us that the engine will turn over and a classic car restoration professional believes the car would be an ideal basis for restoration, as the chassis and floors appear solid and in a dry condition. Cosmetically not original with the addition of a rear spoiler but this would be easily rectifiable as part of a full renovation project. This understated and rather sorry-for-itself project car gives off a real aura of former greatness and has the potential to be very special once again. With restored 911S 2.2 models selling for in excess of £150,000, this car, with the benefit of so many original parts, offers a real opportunity for an enthusiast or restorer to return this venerable 911S to life.

    Auction Description:

A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms this 911S 2.4 was sold new by Porsche Cars Great Britain on 26th May 1972. Delivered in Light Yellow with black leatherette interior, additional factory options included electric mirrors, front and rear Koni dampers, Recaro sports seats, rear wiper, coloured windows, power windows and electric sliding roof. It is one of just 146 right-hand drive examples supplied to the UK in 1972/73.

Three history files document 7 former keepers and their maintenance of this very special Porsche. Previous MoT certificates date back to 1977 and help substantiate a total mileage of 147,000 miles in 44 years. In addition, a large number of bills and receipts from marque specialists such as Autofarm. Sportwagen and GCR Central accompany the file.

In 2002 the vehicle was purchased by our vendor, himself a long-term Porsche collector and Porsche GB Club member, from a Mr. D.Wilson of Leighton Buzzard. Whilst a complete and matching numbers example, it required some TLC to bring it back to former glory and a decision was made in 2005 to restore the car using renowned Porsche experts that the vendor had known and respected for many years.

The entire car was stripped by GCR Central in Leicestershire, who subsequently carried out a complete engine, gearbox, suspension and brake rebuild. Once naked of all components, the bare shell made its way to Sportwagen in Essex and remained there for 18 months. A comprehensive photographic record shows the 911 back to bare metal and repaired with great care and attention. It was then painted to a very high standard in its original colour of Light Yellow and sent back to GCR Central for re-assembly.

Every single component was either reconditioned, restored or replaced and the completed car was finally ready for collection in 2007. All bills for the restoration are on file and the result is a very special 911 indeed. It starts on the button and has covered approximately 1,000 fine-weather miles to-date.

Offered for public sale for the first time for many years, this ‘side-oiler' 1972 2.4 S must be seen and inspected to be truly appreciated. The panel gaps and shut lines have been finished to an exceptional standard and the paintwork boasts a glass-like finish. A significant amount of time was spent during the restoration to ensure originality was preserved at every opportunity. From the time-aged anodised window surrounds to external rear grill and badges, the car has clearly been restored with sympathy in mind. The original factory seats, door cards, dashboard and steering wheel remain in the cockpit, and it looks sensational for it.

A 911 S that firmly ticks the boxes of history, rarity, provenance and exceptional condition. This true collector's item is sure to bring its next owner many miles of joy and happiness. We welcome all pre-sale inspections, for this is one of the finest examples Silverstone Auctions have had the privilege of offering for sale.
