BaT Description:
This 1971 911S Targa is European-market example finished in Tangerine over black leatherette. It is one of just 788 built for the model year and is believed to have been sold new in Germany. The car eventually made its way to Canada before being acquired by the seller four years ago and imported to the US. Power comes from a non-original 2.2-liter flat-six that is equipped with carburetors and mated to a five-speed 901 gearbox. The seller is a self-described enthusiast who commissioned a repaint in the original color, rebuilt the brake system, refreshed the interior, and addressed a number of other items as outlined below. This 911S is now being offered with four years of parts receipts, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a New York State transferable registration.
When the seller acquired the car four years ago, it was finished in a non-original white and had a few cosmetic alterations. He has since returned it back to a stock appearance and refinished the body with a Spies Hecker paint in the original Tangerine (23). The front bumper is fiberglass, while the rear units are original steel pieces. New trim, bumperettes, rubber gaskets, and seals have also been fitted. New lenses have been installed on the tail lamps and H1 headlights. Durant mirrors are present both doors, and the wiper arms are included with sale, though they are not currently. Reproduction 15” Fuchs alloys are fitted with matching center caps and wear new BF Goodrich rubber. The brake system is plumbed with new stainless hoses and retains the correct aluminum ATE front calipers, which have been overhauled.
A previous owner added a set of sport seats, which show some evidence of repair work in the leather as pictured in the gallery below. A replacement dash pad was also installed, and the seller has fitted new German-made carpet along with a headliner. The European-market instrumentation remains installed, and the seller indicates that the oil pressure gauge and original radio are currently inoperable. 87k kilometers (~54k miles) are shown on the odometer.
Power comes from a 2.2-liter flat-six equipped with a set of 40IDT-3C Webers and paired to a five-speed 911/01 transaxle. The engine case is unstamped, though the transaxle is believed to be original. The seller has repaired a number of oil leaks during his ownership. New carpeting has been added to the front compartment, which also houses a refurbished fuel tank, matching Fuchs-style spare, and a factory jack. Per the seller, the car retains factory sheet metal on the floors, rockers, longitudinals, battery box, and suspension mounting points. Chassis stamping is #9111310159. The included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity verifies that the car is a 911S, as well as the original colors and options.
