    BaT Description:

This 1971 911S Targa is European-market example finished in Tangerine over black leatherette. It is one of just 788 built for the model year and is believed to have been sold new in Germany. The car eventually made its way to Canada before being acquired by the seller four years ago and imported to the US. Power comes from a non-original 2.2-liter flat-six that is equipped with carburetors and mated to a five-speed 901 gearbox. The seller is a self-described enthusiast who commissioned a repaint in the original color, rebuilt the brake system, refreshed the interior, and addressed a number of other items as outlined below. This 911S is now being offered with four years of parts receipts, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a New York State transferable registration.

When the seller acquired the car four years ago, it was finished in a non-original white and had a few cosmetic alterations. He has since returned it back to a stock appearance and refinished the body with a Spies Hecker paint in the original Tangerine (23). The front bumper is fiberglass, while the rear units are original steel pieces. New trim, bumperettes, rubber gaskets, and seals have also been fitted. New lenses have been installed on the tail lamps and H1 headlights. Durant mirrors are present both doors, and the wiper arms are included with sale, though they are not currently. Reproduction 15” Fuchs alloys are fitted with matching center caps and wear new BF Goodrich rubber. The brake system is plumbed with new stainless hoses and retains the correct aluminum ATE front calipers, which have been overhauled.

A previous owner added a set of sport seats, which show some evidence of repair work in the leather as pictured in the gallery below. A replacement dash pad was also installed, and the seller has fitted new German-made carpet along with a headliner. The European-market instrumentation remains installed, and the seller indicates that the oil pressure gauge and original radio are currently inoperable. 87k kilometers (~54k miles) are shown on the odometer.

Power comes from a 2.2-liter flat-six equipped with a set of 40IDT-3C Webers and paired to a five-speed 911/01 transaxle. The engine case is unstamped, though the transaxle is believed to be original. The seller has repaired a number of oil leaks during his ownership. New carpeting has been added to the front compartment, which also houses a refurbished fuel tank, matching Fuchs-style spare, and a factory jack. Per the seller, the car retains factory sheet metal on the floors, rockers, longitudinals, battery box, and suspension mounting points. Chassis stamping is #9111310159. The included Porsche Certificate of Authenticity verifies that the car is a 911S, as well as the original colors and options.

    LITERATURE
    Excellence: The Magazine About Porsche, September 2014, “Mexicar: A Rally-Ready 1967 911 S,” pp. 114–118

    THIS CAR
While its victories on the track are well known, the Porsche 911 has proved to be an equally formidable competitor under grueling rally conditions. Presented here is a 1967 911 S equipped for rallying by renowned specialists who addressed mechanical, exterior, interior, and safety requirements necessary for successful running.

The current owner entrusted the project to Windrush Evolutions (WEVO) of San Carlos, California, with the goal of producing the ultimate rally 911. Two notable WEVO rally credits include the 2010 Peking-to-Paris class-winning 356 C and the 2012 London-to-Cape Town class-winning 912. In 2008, with an effort led by Hayden Burvill of WEVO, this car was prepared for the Mexican road rally Carrera Panamerica, during which it was nicknamed “Mexicar.”

Mechanically, the engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, fuel system, wheels, and tires were modified to withstand rally conditions. Modifications to the two-liter engine include use of Weber 40 mm carburetors, revised camshafts, additional external oil cooling, and a twin-plug ignition system. The engine delivers an estimated 170 hp and its gear ratios favor rallying, with closely spaced 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears, and a taller 5th for distance cruising. Ride height is set 35 mm higher than standard, providing additional ground clearance, with heavy-duty front damper inserts and adjustable anti-roll bars installed. The four-wheel disc brakes come from a later 911, with oversized reservoirs and split fluid storage serving two brake circuits. Front wheels are 5.5″ wide and rear wheels are 7″, and a second spare tire is mounted on the roof. A 17-gallon safety fuel cell is accessible via a through-the-hood filler unit. Fuel delivery is not left to chance, with twin Carter electric pumps installed.

Body modifications include an aluminum hood and fiberglass engine lid. Rear fenders have been flared to accommodate the wider wheels and tires. Mindful of road hazards, additional skid plates were installed under the nose, fuel tank, and floor pedal areas, and beneath the engine and transmission to provide protection. The car’s interior was outfitted with both driver and navigator in mind. A multi-point, padded roll cage welded in place and FIA-approved competition seats with six-point safety harnesses create a safe driving environment. A fire system, a kill switch, and a first aid kit address emergency concerns, and an abundance of navigation and communication equipment has been installed, ensuring location security regardless of route. As befits a rally car, the 911 S comes with a full complement of spares. Its Mack Truck Yellow exterior is attractive and readily identifiable, even in remote locations.

Outfitted to take on the most taxing conditions on Earth, Mexicar offers its next owner the opportunity to experience exhilarating motor sports competition.

    Auction Description:

    - A Desirable Early Long-Wheelbase 911 S with 2-Liter Engine
    - Matching-Numbers Engine per Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
    - Restored in 2010 by Porsche Specialists German Tech Inc.
    - Features Rally-Inspired Cosmetics and Cibié Driving Lights
    - Accompanied by Spare Hood, Records, Tools, and Jack

This fine example tastefully embodies that performance aesthetic, with rally-inspired hood and deck lid stripes, along with Cibié driving lights. An additional unadorned hood is included in the sale for those who wish to return the car to a stock appearance. The 911 retains its matching-numbers engine per its certificate of authenticity, is finished in its original color of Light Ivory, and features black sport seats with corduroy inserts. In 2010, Porsche specialists German Tech Inc. of Largo, Florida, restored the 911, a process that included an engine rebuild and work on the transaxle, suspension, brakes, chassis, and body.

Over the past 10 years, this 911 S has been used sparingly as part of The James G. Hascall Collection. The combination of a long-wheelbase chassis and free-revving two-liter engine make the 911 S model one of the most satisfying vintage sports cars ever to come from Stuttgart, and this example would represent an exciting addition to any discerning collection.

    - Fewer than 1,500 911 S Coupes Produced for 1969
    - Retains Matching-Numbers Engine per Porsche COA
    - 1,100 Miles Since Engine and Transaxle Rebuild
    - Documented with Kardex and Restoration Invoices
    - Accompanied by Tool Kit and Owner’s Manual

The beautiful example presented here received an extensive, documented mechanical restoration in 2014 by the noted Texas-based Porsche experts Eagle Racing. The original two-liter six-cylinder engine was disassembled and rebuilt, as was the Bosch mechanical fuel injection and the five-speed manual transaxle. Brakes and suspension systems were restored at the same time. According to the consignor, extensive attention given to the mechanical details of this classic Porsche was performed with the goal of bringing the 911 S to the highest performance level possible. Since being treated to the mechanical restoration, this Porsche has been driven for just 1,100 miles by its current owner. Finished in its original colors of Tangerine with Black interior, it perfectly represents the celebrated styling of an early 911. A Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, Kardex, warranty book, original owner’s manual, and tool kit accompany the car.

The highly desirable and rare combination of legendary Porsche style, reliability, and originality make this classic 911 S the perfect choice for touring, club events, and spirited driving on the open road.

    Auction Description:

    - Finished in Its Outstanding Original Color of Albert Blue
    - Fitted from New with Sunroof and Air-Conditioning
    - Desirable 1972 Model with 2.4-Liter Engine and External Oil Filler
    - Matching-Numbers Example per Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
    - Accompanied by Owner’s Manual, Tools, Jack, and Spare

This lovely 1972 example was originally finished in the fantastic color combination of Albert Blue over Cork Leatherette, and equipped from the factory with a sunroof, Blaupunkt radio, Michelin tires, and the “E03 option” group, which denotes air-conditioning. Records on file indicate that the Porsche’s earliest owner was Dr. Robert Hazelwood, who owned the car by 1974, when he had it serviced by Norman Scott Porsche + Audi in Houston. The 911 S has received documented cosmetic, mechanical, and metal work over the years, with many receipts on file. Refinished in its original color of Albert Blue, this example now features a black interior with sport seats. Significantly, the 911 retains its matching-numbers engine according to its Porsche COA.

Accompanied by an owner’s manual, tools, jack, and spare, this 911 S benefits from an attractive older restoration and has been a part of The James G. Hascall Collection since 2006. With the rare combination of air-conditioning, sunroof, and Albert Blue paint, this example should be seriously considered by any 911 enthusiast or collector.
