While it might be a very nice car I am struggling to understand the use of terms such as “original” and “unmolested” when write up mention full restoration, new floor, replacement engine etc. Is this a difference between English English and American English ....or...what is “original” taken to mean in used classic car context?

  2. #2292
Probably a more accurate description: The car has gone through several levels of restoration over the years in an attempt to maintain 'original' and/or 'unmolested' appearance with many non-OEM parts; such as replacement engine, non-original dash board cover and non-original re-upholstered sport seats.

....as the expression goes .....it’s only original ...errm...twice

“ added rubberized coating under the car. ” is maybe an original thing for “ one of the most reputable Porsche body shops” to do but afaik is not the original factory applied finish nor even a new finish done to closely meet the original specification as I understand how these cars were originally finished.

Looks a nice shiny car And wish seller well with the sale but of their choice of wording in the description jarred so to me it became a distraction

Currently in between Porsches. Sold my 73.5T Targa, now suffering from serious withdrawal symptoms. Attending Rennsport Reunion VI didn't really help getting over it.

    Past: '73.5T Targa, '12 991S Cab, '07 987

    Seller's Description:

Up for sale here is an unmolested, unrestored 1971 Porsche 911 S Targa that left the factory the exceptionally beautiful color combination Gold metallic Exterior over black interior.

The History of the car goes like that… The first owner purchased the car back in early 71 in San Diego. He drove it for 6 month and then the second owner took over. This Porsche stayed in California and moved from San Diego up to Incline Village right at Lake Tahoe and later to Grass Valley. 2nd owner is a very well known Porsche enthusiast (Long time PCA member). He had the car for a whopping 45 years!!!

The Car: Factory Porsche 911S Targa with the matching numbers engine and MFI still installed. Car runs and drives as it should, and pulls really hard, like you would expect it. The engine fires right up and runs smooth without any issues. Tranny shifts flawless through the 5 gears. The Body is virtually rust free, with no accident damage ever.

The condition: Although the car is un-restored and untouched, it still got some work to it done, that was necessary to preserve the excellent condition…
Starting with the paint… The factory gold metallic paint (8810) was known to fade over the years and so the car received a high quality respray in it’s original color back in the late 90’s. Also the front seats became a little mellow and got a new factory style upholstery. All service and maintenance was performed by well known Porsche mechanics in California. Latest upgrades to mention would be: A redone Targa top to factory specs… A brand new Sachs clutch kit with replacing the main wheel bearing seal (0 miles)… 4 brand new Pirelli Tires with 0 miles (Factory spare still with original unused tire). The MFI Pump was just rebuilt to factory Specs, by a certified Bosch Service Center … Fuel tank was removed, flushed and re-coated inside…

Overall this is a really honest and nice Porsche 911 S. It has one of the best color combinations, and at the end of the day it will be still a Factory S with only 788 Targa’s built that year!!! Pretty hard to come by these days.

Also a great color originally (golden green!)... sadly none of the options that made it special when new remain.

Just from viewing the photos above, no MFI and a 911T tachometer. Having the fitted luggage would have been priceless.
