    Auction Description:

Please note that this lot will need to be collected in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

    - Swiss delivery example; Tangerine over black leatherette
    - Recently completed mechanical restoration executed by Auto Mathis AG and Eleven Solutions
    - Recaro Sport seats, Momo Prototipo steering wheel, rear deck speakers
    - Accompanied by spare wheel, Kardex, recent maintenance records, inspection documents, and rebuild process-photos courtesy of Mike Gnani

This 1970 911 S 2.2 coupe is a slick top Swiss delivery example and presents exceedingly well—having recently been put through a full cosmetic and powertrain restoration executed by Auto Mathis of St. Moritz, Switzerland, and Mike Gnani’s Eleven Solutions of Benediktbeuern, Germany. A binder of accompanying invoices amount to over 55,000 CHF, thus verifying the commissioned restoration and the services provided therein, in full detail—with over 260 parts numbers listed. Originally delivered on April 8, 1970 in Tangerine over black leatherette, this chassis sports fresh true-to-factory paintwork and slight cosmetic additions present on this chassis include a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and aftermarket speakers mounted in the rear deck. The staggered Fuchs wheels are presently shod in Matrac XM-series tires—a perfect accoutrement for sporty all-season jaunts in this late production C-series chassis. However, it is important to note that this car is fitted with both a replacement engine from 1971 and gearbox of the correct type.

Now offered with an accompanying spare wheel, Kardex, recent maintenance records, invoices, and rebuild process-photos courtesy of Mike Gnani, this presentable and mechanically restored 911 S 2.2 is undoubtedly an alluring prospect for further enjoyment.

    Addendum
Please note that due to travel restrictions resulting from Covid-19 this car has not been inspected in person by an RM specialist and its inspection report is therefore based on information provided by the consignor as well as available photography.

    BaT Description:

This 1972 Porsche 911S Targa was reportedly imported to the US from Germany in 1976 and was acquired by the seller in 1977. The car is finished in Light Yellow over black and is powered by a numbers-matching 2.4-liter flat-six paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Features include a removable targa top, limited-slip differential, front spoiler, fog lamps, and a cassette stereo. Service in 2018 included an oil change and replacing the shifter ball cup, hand throttle, sway bar bushings, and fuel pump. This 911S is now offered with service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

A repaint in the original shade of Light Yellow was carried out during previous ownership, as were repairs to the rear decklid and right rear quarter panel. The rear window wiper has been removed, and the seller touched up corrosion around the headlight trim rings. Noted flaws include a hole in the targa bar from a previously mounted antenna, orange peel on the lower right corner of the rear decklid, a dent around the left door handle, and corrosion in the door jambs and battery box. Additional features include US-spec lights, a body-colored front lip spoiler, fog lamps, a removable targa panel, a brushed-stainless-steel targa bar, aftermarket side mirrors, and a 1972-only oil tank filler location ahead of the right rear wheel. 15″ Fuchs wheels feature black centers and wear Bridgestone Potenza tires. Braking is from four-wheel discs, and the sway bar bushings were replaced in 2018.

The interior is upholstered in black and features replacement seats with cloth inserts reportedly sourced from a later 911. Additional equipment includes manual windows and door locks, a four-spoke steering wheel with a hand-stitched leather cover, aftermarket latch-and-link lap belts, and an aftermarket cassette stereo and speakers. The hand throttle and shifter ball cup were replaced in August 2018. There is a crack in the dash and tears and seam separation are noted on both seats. Instrumentation consists of a central 8k-rpm tachometer, a 300-km/h speedometer, and gauges for fuel level as well as oil level, temperature, and pressure. The five-digit odometer has reportedly rolled over once and currently shows 46k kilometers (~29k miles).

The 2.4L Type 911/53 flat-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and drives the rear wheels through a Type 915 four-speed manual transaxle equipped with a limited-slip differential. Pressure-fed timing chain tensioners have reportedly been added, and service in August 2018 included an oil change and replacing the fuel pump. Engine stamping *6320653* matches the number shown on the Porsche CoA, confirming it as original. A photo of the matching transmission number (220417) is provided in the gallery.

The 1993 Porsche Certificate of Authenticity lists the optional equipment as well as the original colors and powertrain numbers.

    Dealer Description:

This 1973 Porsche 911 S Targa is finished in the original color of Ivory, paint code (132), with Brown leather. This is the 336th 911 S Targa produced of the 925 total for the 1973 model year. The car retains its numbers matching, type 911/53 motor; Engine no *6330794* with Bosch MFI fuel injection. Original factory options included; US Equipment, Tinted Glass All Around, and Dunlop Tires.
The early history of this car is not known other than it was in Washington State early on until 2011 when it was brought to CA and owned by an officer at the Monterey Naval base. The car was acquired by a WA Porsche collector in early 2018 and has been stored in his large private warehouse. Recently both batteries have been replaced w/ correct 6 volt units from Porsche Classic and the car has received a fresh tune up. The body was stripped to bare metal, and painted to a high standard at some point. New seals and body gaskets were fitted. All panels and floors are believed original. The original brown leather interior is very nice showing a lovely light patina. Dash is crack free and features the correct center speaker grill. The Blaupunkt am/fm cassette is currently non operational. The carpets, door panels, door pockets and targa top are all in excellent condition. The steering wheel leather has been recovered and new period optional brown coco floor mats look great, providing a cool vintage vibe. All gauges, lights, horn, and heater are in good working order.

    Auction Description:

We are pleased to present this 1968 Porsche 911L finished in white over a brown leatherette interior. Marking the final generation of the short wheelbase 911, this 1968 911 L represents 1 of only 449 U.S. market examples produced for the model year. Highlighting a number’s matching 5-speed manual drivetrain, this 911 is said to be in fantastic running order with a recent full engine rebuild performed at a cost of over $22k. Showing approximately 106k miles on the odometer, this classic Porsche 911L is ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker.

Originally finished in Metallic Green as per the certificate of authenticity, this 911 is believed to have been refinished in white sometime during its previous ownership. The paint is said to be in fair condition with a small rust bubble noted behind driver’s door and above the passenger side rear wheel arch. A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery. This 911 features a short wheelbase, recessed door pushbuttons and original Fuchs wheels which remain in great and come dressed in Sumitomo tires.

This 911 retains its brown leatherette interior with brushed aluminum dashboard trim. The cabin is said to be in good overall condition with some appropriate wear including a slight tear on the passenger seat. An upgraded MOMO steering wheel has been installed and the seller indicates all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

An original 2.7 L (<typo) flat-six carbureted engine send 130 HP to the rear wheels by way of a number’s matching 5-speed manual transmission. This 911 L is equipped with the improved dual-circuit ventilated disc brakes from the 911 S model introduced the year prior. The engine was fully rebuilt in 2018 at a cost of over $22k, and the ignition system has also been replaced. With approximately 1,200 miles added since the time of the engine rebuild, this 911 is said to drive beautifully.

The sale of this 911 L will include one master key, a door key, the original books and service records dating back to 1978. For any enthusiast in search of an early model Porsche 911, this rare U.S. market 911 L makes a fantastic choice.

    Dealer Description:

Porsche has a long history of motorsport, and there are numerous paths to take street cars and make them competitive in various classes and competitions. This is part of the reason that the Porsche 911 has endured for decades as such a competent platform; the constant evolution and pushing of the envelope both by the factory and the privateers. This 1967 Porsche 911S followed in those footsteps during the recent restoration. Some simple modifications in tune with the “sports-purpose” mantra for many early 911s.

Beginning with the engine, a complete overhaul was specified. The factory original engine case was damaged many years ago, so a replacement blank case was used for the restoration, which has been re-stamped as 960617. The original engine case (#960617) is included with the car, and upon inspection and preliminary machining by Ollie’s in Arizona, it is able to be utilized if desired in the future.

The engine features rare and correct Weber 40 IDS (yes, IDS) carburetors which were original for the 1967 911S. The engine has been enhanced for extra power with a displacement bump to 2.2L, but externally presents as a correct stock 2.0L engine. Currently the engine has a minor oil smoke issue, which may or may not resolve with additional break-in miles. Compression and leak down tests done on a cold engine at 700 miles were 145-155psi across all six cylinders with leak down at 2% to 4%. It is subtle, and hard to capture on video, but the oil smoke is visible from the car at warm idle. The current reduced asking price reflects this potential issue.

The car features the original number and type matching 901 transmission case (#103618), fully rebuilt with stock internals, plus the addition of a Quaife limited slip differential. It shifts smoothly into all gears and is a treat to drive on back roads.

Suspension duties are handled with a few bolt on upgrades as well, utilizing LWB front suspension components, and adjustable sway bars front and rear. Dampening is handled by Koni shocks at all four corners. The original 1967 911S front suspension components are included with the car.

For the wheels and tires, the sports purpose theme continues, and the car is currently running a set of Fuchs sized 15x6 and 15x7R, finished in a frosted RSR look by Harvey Weidman. Michelin TB15 tires in a slightly staggered set-up were chosen to wrap around the Fuchs – 15/60 R15 up front, and 18/60 R15 out back.

All bare metal was restored and replaced as needed before the original shade of Polo Red was applied once again to the car. All trim and rubber is new and/or refurbished and Sekurit original glass is in place other than the front windshield. Deco trim, bumperettes, and all the lights are new as well during the restoration. Currently featuring fog/driving lights under the bumper, the cover plates are included and have also been restored and painted Polo Red at the same time, providing you the option for either look.

The interior is all fresh as well – carpets, headliner, seating surfaces, dash, gauges, door panels. All stock other than the later style seats that feature houndstooth/pepita inserts. The upgraded seats are very comfortable and could easily be switched for standard seats as desired. For interior comfort, the car was optioned with a factory Webasto heater. The heater has been restored and is in place, but not connected at this time due to safety concerns. The large diameter steering wheel keeps the SWB flavor alive during the driving experience.

    Why We Love This Car

Porsche 911 based cars have a history of blurring the line between road and race examples. The factory themselves delivered numerous publications to help owners convert and upgrade their personal cars for the local rallies, hillclimbs, and racing events in the 1960s and 1970s. This was the true “sports-purpose” look that many 911s have seen and enjoyed over the years. This car was restored from the ground up with a bit of both street and race – the essence of the weekend gentleman racer in our opinion.

The modifications from original are all reversible as desired for the next caretaker. Many of the original parts are included with the car upon sale, and where they are not, the parts are readily available in the current market.

This car has written several great chapters in its own book over the decades. Sold as a street car to a Porsche enthusiast in 1967 as the first “S” model of the 911 series, later used as a race car for a number of years, and then restored back to street duty as seen here. The upgrades are tasteful and highly usable. The car provides one of the most enjoyable driving experiences from an early 911 we have sampled. There is something about a SWB car that is special, even more so with this dedicated and thoughtful build.

This wonderful numbers matching 1967 Porsche 911S is out of a multi-year restoration, having just covered 750 miles. It is ready for a new caretaker to use and enjoy the subtle upgrades to one of the most desirable early Porsche 911s. The car comes with a tool kit, jack, books/manuals as pictured, original engine case, original suspension components, and several boxes of spare/original parts.
