yes I'm guessing they got the wrong code for a re-pop paint tag. The rivets don't look original to me?

Not the best repo plate I've seen, and they didn't get the stamped numbers very close, either. Compare to my original:

    Auction Description:

    - Manufactured on the 15th February 1972 as one of just 1,430 “side oil fill-oel klappe” 911s
    - Confirmed as the original engine and gearbox and factory Viper Green (3838) by the Porsche CoA
    - Delivered new to Italy, the car remained there until 1997, subsequently UK registered on 1st September 2002
    - Invoices for some £25,000 are present for a full engine and gearbox rebuild by Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd.
    - The bare metal re-spray, in original Viper Green, was completed by Queenswell Coachworks of Forfar
    - The extensive history file contains invoices to the value of around £50,000 and a photographic record of the restoration
    - Presented to auction with some 59,600km or 36,700 miles (atoc) and an MOT valid until July 2021.

Porsche installed the oil filler flap on the right rear quarter panel but, as is common knowledge, this was frequently mistaken for the fuel filler, particularly in the US, so it was subsequently changed back for the 1973 model year.Porsche produced just 1,430 of these 1972 911s known as the “side oil fill” or "oelkappe" with this very fine example leaving the factory on the 15th February 1972. Destined for Italy, this 2.4S specified in Viper Green with a black interior stayed there until 1997, returning to Germany for a spell until it was imported and subsequently registered in the UK on the 1st September 2002. The car was entered into the Independent Porsche Enthusiasts Club Concours event at Walton Hall in 2003, winning the Autobahn Best Display Porsche award and subsequently featuring on the club magazine’s front cover.

The car was treated to a full cosmetic and mechanical restoration from 2012 with a bare metal respray in the original colour of Viper Green by Queensway Coachworks of Forfar, and a photographic record contained in a CD-ROM is included in the extensive history file. The interior was refurbished, the black leatherette seats and dashboard present beautifully today, as do the dials, switchgear, carpeting and perforated headlining. The original engine and gearbox were rebuilt by renowned Porsche specialists, Gantspeed Engineering Ltd. of Lincolnshire, at a cost of some £25,000 less than 2,000 kilometres ago.

Offered to auction by a long-standing Silverstone Auctions customer, the car has been stabled alongside one of the finest collections of rare Jaguars and modern Porsches since 2016. General servicing and maintenance have been carried out regardless of use and the car was last serviced by Anthony Seddon Racing of Cheshire in 2019 at 59,559 kilometres. Hardly driven since, the odometer now shows an equivalent of some 36,700 miles at the time of cataloguing. The MOT Certificate is valid until the 7th July 2021 and is accompanied by previous MOTs, past tax discs, owner’s manual, various magazines featuring the car and its tool kit.

We love an outlandishly painted Porsche at Silverstone Auctions and a “side oil fill” 2.4S with matching numbers, extensive bills, near twenty-years of UK residency that presents this well is always a pleasure to offer to a discerning enthusiast.

    - 3950 kms traveled since the restoration

In August 1969, the Porsche 911 2.2 S replaced the 2.0 S. Thanks to the engine cover and the now aluminum rear apron, this car was lightened, while becoming the most powerful model of the 911 range at the time, with no less than 180 horsepower. Under the hood, you can easily spot this version on the engine cover, which is red. This mechanical injection version will not be imported into the USA. The new engine is smoother for regular use, without putting aside the Porsche DNA, the Flat 6 producing a sublime sound past 4000 rpm.

The Flat 6, the displacement of which is increased to 2195 cm3 in the process, can now reach a maximum speed of 230 km / h, with a 0 to 100 km / h achieved in 7.5 seconds. The maximum torque of 199 nm is reached at 5,200 rpm. In the end, 3,154 copies of this model will be produced.

The copy that we offer for sale has benefited from a complete restoration and the car has been used with care, having driven only 3,950 kms since. It is therefore in perfect aesthetic and mechanical condition. The setup is sublime and typical of 911s of those years, with an Orange Signal exterior that matches the brown leather interior perfectly. A very large file of invoices comes with the car, which was appraised in 2021.

    Dealer Description:

    - First Registration: 22 December 1967
    - Chassis Number: 11805158
    - Original Colour: Burgundy Red (6809)
    - Rare, one year only ‘Luxe’ model
    - Remarkably original condition
    - Much recent expenditure
    - Driving beautifully

The US-market Porsche 911 L (for ‘Luxe’) was a one year only model, often recognized by its side reflectors, and benefited from S brakes and suspension, despite a standard engine tune.

This car has the rare ‘Elephant Hide’ vinyl interior completely intact, having had very few owners during its life, including one long-term lady owner in the UK. With original paint in the main, it’s overall presentation is as a remarkably time warp example.

Sold by Sports Purpose in 2018 to a longstanding friend of the business, the car has benefitted from considerable recent expenditure, not least a comprehensive engine rebuild by respected specialist Steve McHale.

Porsche has always been expert at segregating ostensibly similar cars, with thoughtful details, evolution and options. Much as we love the S models, this car offers a slightly more relaxed and less overtly sporty drive.

The rebuilt engine is certainly strong and the car shares that attribute of good early cars of belying its age with cross-country pace, motorway comfort and ease of use that very, very few of its contemporaries could offer as standard.

The burgundy colour makes a refreshing change from some of the more popular hues and the car looks ready to load up and go. At the listed price, it represents a good value opportunity for a late ‘60s Porsche experience.

    Auction Description:

We are pleased to present this restored 1972 Porsche 911S Targa finished in Gold Metallic over a black leather interior. The top-range Porsche model of its day, this 911S is one of only 989 Targa versions produced for the 1972 model year. It was acquired by the seller in 2011 who carried out an extensive multi-year rotisserie restoration including a bare-metal respray, a fully reupholstered leather interior, a gearbox rebuild, and the installation of a new series-matching engine which was rebuilt and upgraded to European 2.7L RS-specifications. The seller, a Porsche-trained technician, performed this restoration to a very high standard with a focus on using OEM and original parts. With approximately 43k miles shown on the 5-digit odometer, this rare and highly collectible 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Texas.

During the restoration, this Targa was stripped down to bare metal and professionally refinished in its original color of Gold Metallic (88). All rubber seals and emblems were replaced, and the original floor pans and battery boxes were retained along with much of the original brightwork which was polished and restored to a lustrous appearance. New-old-stock parts were also sourced and fitted when possible including Hella front turn signal housings and lenses, rear taillight housings and lenses, Bosch H4 headlights, and a new windshield. The 15” Fuchs alloys were refinished by Al Reed in CA. and currently wear Michelin XWX tires sized 185.70VR15.

The interior was completely redone by Autos International with new black leather upholstery, carpeting, door pockets, seatbelts, armrests, and a genuine Porsche dashboard. The Targa top was refurbished and fitted with a new headliner and the gauges were sent to the specialists at West Valley Instrument in CA. to be rebuilt. New parts include a Hirschman antenna, Fanfare horns, a radio speaker, and window cranks. Audio is provided by a refurbished period-correct Blaupunkt radio.

Due to the failure of the original engine, a new period-correct unit was sourced and rebuilt to European 2.7 RS specifications. The case was machined by Ollie’s of AZ. and the engine was reassembled with new Mahle Nikasil pistons and cylinders. the original crankshaft was magnafluxed, micro-polished, and balanced with all of its components in place to within 10-grams difference. Some popular upgrades were also fitted including Carrera chain tensioners, a front-mounted oil cooler, Turbo lower valve covers, and new SSI heat exchangers and muffler. The 5-speed 915 gearbox was then completely gone through and rebuilt with new synchros and a new aluminum pressure plate, flywheel, and clutch disc. The rear axles were replaced along with the gas tank, fuel lines, and oil tubes. New Koni shocks were installed in the rear as well as new Bilstein B6 inserts up front. The suspension components were bead blasted, powder-coated, and reassembled with new bushings and bearings. The original 911S brake calipers were rebuilt and paired with new pads, rotors, lines, a new reservoir, and a master cylinder. Only a few thousand miles are said to have been driven since the restoration.

This sale will include a clean title. Meticulously restored and beautifully presented while offering a tasteful upgrade in performance, this rare 911S Targa provides an excellent opportunity for any discerning Porsche enthusiast.
