    BaT Description:

This 1967 Porsche 911S is one of 483 examples built in the soft-window Targa configuration for the model year and was delivered new in April 1967 by Otto Glocker in Frankfurt, Germany. The car was acquired by its current owner in 2017 and moved from Germany to Belgium, where it received a refurbishment that was completed in February 2020. Work included a repaint in the factory shade of Bahama Yellow, a re-trim of the interior in black leather with pepita seats inserts, and a rebuild of the 2.0-liter flat-six with the addition of hydraulic chain tensioners. Additional features include a rebuilt numbers-matching dogleg five-speed manual transaxle, Fuchs 15×4.5” alloy wheels, front fog lamps, a Webasto auxiliary heater, a Blaupunkt radio, and an antenna. This 911S Targa is now offered on dealer consignment in Mechelen, Belgium, with a copy of the Kardex, a Porsche delivery certificate, a tool kit, an owner’s manual, and Belgian registration.

The body was stripped to bare metal during the refurbishment, and sheet metal repairs were carried out where needed before a repaint in the original shade of Bahamagelb (6605). Rubber seals and bright trim are said to have been replaced or refreshed during the project. Equipment includes a fabric-covered removable targa panel, a zippered soft rear window, a brushed stainless steel roll bar, 911S-specific bumpers and side trim, Hella halogen fog lamps, and a fender-mounted antenna.

Bright-finished 15×4.5” Fuchs alloy wheels feature black painted webbing and were mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires during the refurbishment. The suspension system was overhauled during the project and features Bilstein shock absorbers, a rear anti-roll bar, and a thicker front anti-roll bar than standard 911 models. The four-wheel ventilated disc brakes were also refreshed.

The cabin was refreshed during the refurbishment with black leather and pepita cloth inserts over the front seats and black upholstery over the rear seats, doors, and dashboard. Additional features include charcoal carpeting over the floors and center tunnel, basketweave trim on the dash fascia, adjustable front headrests, and a Blaupunkt push-button radio.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames refurbished green-lettered VDO instrumentation with aluminum bezels, including a central 8k-rpm tachometer, a 250-km/h speedometer, a clock, and combination gauges. The five-digit odometer was reset to zero during the refurbishment and shows approximately 600 kilometers (~400 miles).

The front trunk houses a factory-optioned Webasto gasoline-fueled heater inside the smuggler’s box, as well as a 14” Fuchs spare wheel wearing a Lassa Impetus tire. The 2.0-liter flat-six was overhauled during the refurbishment, at which time it was updated with hydraulic chain tensioners. A post-rebuild service and tune-up in November 2020 at 500 kilometers included adjustment of the triple-choke Weber carburetors and the ignition timing. Stampings of engine number *961640* and transaxle number 104627 are shown in the gallery. Power is sent to the rear wheels by a rebuilt Type 901/02 five-speed manual transaxle.

The Kardex lists the original color combination of Bahama Yellow over black leather, as well as the original component numbers.

    PCAR Market Description:

We are pleased to offer this rare 1967 Porsche 911S Targa finished in Special Order Tangerine over a black interior. Marking the introduction of both the 911S and Targa model with the early soft rear window configuration, this 1967 example is said to be one of only 483 built for the model year and was delivered new from the factory to the Hans Kahrmann Volkswagen-Porsche dealership in Fulda Germany, one of the four original Porsche dealerships. This Targa remained in Germany for two years with all service work being performed at the factory per Kardex before it was exported to Southern California in 1969 where it has remained ever since. This 911S was the subject of a recent 3,000-hour nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration at the hands of early 911 specialist Brad Baldwin of Los Angeles, CA. With both the original 911S and Soft Window Targa models rare in their own respects, this 1967 example represents one of the most coveted early 911s in existence. Said to retain its number matching drivetrain and accompanied by its original 1969 California license plates, this 911S Targa was recently featured at Monterey Car Week and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with less than 100 miles traveled since the completion of the restoration.

During its recent restoration, this Targa was placed on a rotisserie, stripped to bare metal, and painstakingly refinished in its original Special Order paint color of Tangerine (2002P). The restoration is said to have been carried out to the highest show quality standards and the seller notes that a 12-year SunTek ceramic-infused self-healing paint protection film has been applied over the full exterior. Detailed images of the car and the restoration process are provided in the gallery. Several notable changes were introduced to the bodywork of the 911 for the 1967 model year including the addition of rubber covers to the chrome overriders, wider rubbing strips on the chrome bumper and rocker moldings, and a new design for the chrome door handles. This 1967 example also debuted the original Targa top configuration with a distinctive silver roll-over bar and removable plastic rear window. This 911S rides on first-year 15" x 4.5" Fuchs forged aluminum wheels that come dressed in a set of period-style Michelin tires.

Inside, the cabin has been re-trimmed in black leather along with new carpeting, a new dashboard, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a period Blaupunkt radio.

1967 saw the introduction of Porsche’s 911S model with a 2.0L engine featuring a higher compression ratio, forged aluminum pistons, revised cam profiles, and larger valves resulting in an output of up to 160 HP. The 911S also came equipped with front and rear anti-roll bars, Koni shock absorbers, and ventilated disc brakes. The recent restoration of this 911S included a full rebuild of the original 2.0L flat-six engine, numbers-matching 5-speed manual gearbox, suspension, steering, and braking system.

This sale will include a Kardex, original 1969 California license plates, a spare tire, and a clean title. This rare and beautifully restored 1967 911S Targa makes an excellent investment opportunity as well as a fine addition to any classic Porsche collection, do not let this opportunity pass you by.

Hello all, any input on this Tangerine SWT S? Gosh would this look good beside my tangerine RS #451!

At first blush this looks like a quality car. If anyone saw it in person or could point out nuances to be concerned with I’d sure appreciate it. The car has my attention.

    Cheers,

Looks great! Not sure who photoshopped the colors on that last photo. Strange selection of what was color vs. black and white as to not distract from the "pop" of the car I presume?
    Looking for a 1967 911S Project!

I saw this car in person at Werks Reunion and was able to Judge it just this weekend at San Marino Motor Classic. Its a very nice car and the owner has clearly done his homework and takes immense pride in his restoration work. Its not quite a show winning car, but its 98% of the way there. Very good car. Feel free to PM me for any further questions. I would not hesitate to purchase this car, price depending.

    Auction Description:

    - Final year for long-bonnet 911s and the Bosch MFI engine
    - Retains its numbers-matching 2.4-liter MFI engine
    - Presented in its original color scheme
    - Italian delivery example, remained in Italy until 2010

One of only 925 F-series 911 Targas built by Porsche in 1973, this car was sold by JV Porsche of Verona, Italy. It is fitted with a number of desirable options including twin headrests with factory comfort seats, a period-correct Blaupunkt stereo, rear-seat original REPA seatbelts, and dual mirrors. Sold new to an owner in Verona, the 911 would remain there for 37 years prior to being acquired by its next owner in Denmark.

Prior to this, the car was restored in Modena, in workshop services that included a repaint to its original color of Helelfenbein (Light Ivory), a complete retrim in the correct black leather interior, and factory-correct gray knitted carpets. All four wheels were found to be correctly date-stamped and were restored and anodized by the specialists at Art Wheels in France and fitted with period-correct 185 / 70-15 Michelin XWX tires. The chrome and factory-tinted windows were left in their original condition. According to its previous owner, upon his purchase no evidence of rust repairs or prior accident damage could be found.

Acquired by Mr. Guikas through RM Sotheby's in 2015, this Targa still presents in excellent condition overall. Providing the benefits of open-air motoring with the security of a closed coupe, early 911 Targas offer the best of both worlds and prove to be eminently usable today — impressive when considering that this example left Stuttgart nearly 50 years ago.
