    Manitoba early porsche scene

    Hi people,

I am likely to be in Winnipeg later this year and fancy taking my 911 2.4s with me from the UK. Are there any other early porsche people in the area, or Porsche activity at in the area?

    Thanks
    Pete

There are probably at least 5 people in the area that I am aware of.

It's a town named after Handsome Dick Manatoba a singer in a band whose name I've forgotten.

Are you planning to do any travels across the border ..... like to the south and east a couple hundred miles ?

    If so.
AND, it the dates co-ordinate, I can fill you in on a great group of Porsche enthusiasts around the Fargo, Brainerd, and Minneapolis area.
Brainerd International Raceway will be having several driving events thru the summer, there is a National PCA Club Race in July, numerous drives and socials planned....
You can also google or search our local Club activities for Nord Stern under Porsche Club and visit our website page.
I wish I knew more about what goes on over on the Canadian side regarding Porsche gatherings, but I don't.
The end of June also marks the week long PCA Parade in Traverse City Michigan , in case you wish to drive a few hundred or so more miles into the heart of central Michigan...... that trip over from Winnipeg thru the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the drive of a lifetime thru primitive forests and gorgeous 2 lane roads.

PM me for a schedule or to give you some contacts here. We have a GREAT group of folks that own many a 911, early-late- and everything in between. Some pretty historic.

Have a good trip over and a wonderful stay. This part of the world in spring, summer , and fall are the stuff of Porsche dreams made real.

That is most likely a long days drive; more like 18 hours. After the 89 Parade I drove from Traverse City to within 200 miles of Winnipeg and I was dodging moose in the dark before arriving home. Some wonderful roads along the route, but I prefer the north of Superior route.

Things are moving on here. We will get to Winnipeg mid August but I doubt my car will arrive until mid October due to when I will get to ship it. I guess it will then need to be put away for the winter ready for the summer next year.

I have just finished the last of the restoration work on it, now it just needs a proper detail and it will be good to go into the container.

Unless someone offers me a crazy amount of money for it, in which case I will be looking for a new project when I get over the other side of the pond

Ah Winnipeg in the late fall. Umm, Winnipeg is also called Winter-peg to the locals. The main intersection in the center of the city, Portage @ Main is often called the coldest in Canada; that may be a bit of a stretch, but it can sure feel that way. Early October in Canada is Thanksgiving holiday time; the poor Yanks have to wait another month for the leftovers. However, it is not unusual to have snow at this time, although you could be lucky. At one time there was two Porsche / VW dealers in the city. Do not be fooled by driving distances in the UK. Canada is a bit wider. It takes 24 hours to drive across Ontario, and another to cross the 3 prairie provinces to reach the mountains. So coast to coast would be nearly 80 hours on the road? That is five time zones, not including Newfoundland which is another half.

    Thanks Dave,

We have driven from Winni to Banff a few times so know what you mean about distances. We are renting a house with a decent garage so it can go straight in the dehumidified tent when it arrives.

Just been out cleaning the back seats and glass - very satisfying on a summers evening

I will definately come back to you on contacts when we get over there. Still all seams a bit surreal at present.

I am now spending silly amounts of time checking out 964 C2's on ebay in the USA. I used to have a C4 way back when and fancy one of those to go along side my beauty.
