Thread: H4 question

    H4 question

When is the small light below the H4 bulb supposed to be on with a euro spec wiring harness? My Italian 73, all original, has the oddest sequence. It, the small light, only comes on when I honk the horn. This can't be right can it? It seems like it should be switched to come one with park lights?! Does anyone know what is correct, my loom seems original and untouched. Also are the US spec harnesses even made to use this small light. Steve

You mean the small light in the indicator housing? Yes, when parked left or right indicator on.

No the tiny light just below the H4 bulb in the headlight assembly.

They are called in Italian "luci di posizione". They go "on" at the first step of the lights knob. The second step activates the driving lights. Page 21 of the Italian 1973 manual, btw ...

My H4's have these bulb sockets with no bulbs. If bulbs are installed should they work? I seem to remember a while back when this was discussed before that they had to be wired to the parking lights to function. Are the H4 lights always an add on thus requiring wiring the bulb yourself? Was the 69 ever delivered with H4's meaning the wiring is already there? If not, when the H4's are installed are the wires to these bulbs already incorporated in the factory wiring loom for the headlight already to use or do you yourself, (the installer), have to wire that bulb to the parking lights?

The parking light wiring can be located in the headlight bucket I believe through at least the '83 year models and perhaps beyond. You can pick up the connection there for the parking lights (city light connection). A jumper from the parking hot and a ground are needed, both in the bucket wiring.
