    1966 SRC tech help

I have a 66 911 and considering adding a front sway bar. How much will this help the handling? How hard to install? Are originals out there? What size should I look for?
Worth the effort? Any idea of cost?
    Thank for any ideas

Bob, your '66 911 should already have a 13mm "Pencil" bar in the front. A 15mm from a pre-74 car should be available, and is of course stiffer than the 13mm by the fourth power of the increase in diameter.

However, before anyone can make a technical recommendation to you, we need to know what you're using the car for. Street? DE? Vintage Racing? What wheels and tires? What suspension, stock or modified? How recent are the suspension bushings, ball joints, etc.? What torsion bars, original 19/22 or something bigger?

If the problem is too much body roll, the conventional solution is increased torsion bars, not a change in ARB. Also, when the factory added a 16mm ARB up front for the 911S, it also added one in the rear to balance it out.

Installation is half a day, most of the time is spent getting old rusty fasteners off and making sure that the new bar doesn't bind.

I have a 31mm front bar in my race car-- given the rear-engine design, a 911 can take a LOT of front bar. Remember that a stiffer front bar will transfer force from the highly loaded outside rear tire to the comparatively lighter loaded outside front-- and in so doing try to lift the inside front off the ground, which is why 911s often corner on three wheels. Hence, the need for more setup information before knowing what to recommend.
