I know that many could be put off by John's gruff exterior but I'll say that you didn't win his approval unless you earned it, and then you really felt like you accomplished something. I wrote the tech quiz for the Keystone Colo. Parade in 2009. I really worked hard to make it the kind of tech quiz that I would have wanted to take. When John finished his quiz he walked up to the front of the room where I was sitting, I thought, oh, oh, I'm gonna get ripped!! instead,,,, John thanked for me for "putting the tech back in the tech quiz" I was SOOOO pleased, because if John liked it then it was a GOOD quiz!! Believe me, he wouldn't have said so just to be POLITE!!

I also knew John for a long time. He was very active in PCA. They retired the Parade overall award because he won it so often. So long pal. Gordon Ledbetter

Sad news for the Porsche community.

It’s Otto I have to thank for getting me hooked on 911 ownership. I had been a 911 admirer since I was an impressionable 10 year old but I didn’t really know a whole lot about them, so when the day came I could afford to buy one I walked into Otto’s shop in Venice to ask a few questions. Without missing a beat he grabbed the keys to his white 71E and we took off for a blast on the 10 freeway. None of my years of so-called driving could have prepared me for what was essentially a no holds barred rampage through afternoon traffic with nothing but some loose fitting lap belts to try to qualm my panic. The real clincher came when Otto took the off ramp, hooked a left and then floored the throttle to re-enter the freeway and the car shot around in classic 911 style. Thanks for giving me the bug John. It’s been worth every moment.
