    Fan Restoration - Rivits?

    Hi All

Hoping for some advice from the collective...

I'm tackling my fan restoration, I have the magnesium looking nice and it has been treated with Gibbs. I'm doing a yellow zinc run on some final engine parts (carby linkages) including the fan pulley, but I want to do the steel centre of the fan which appears to be held in using a rivit of some kind. What is the process of removing these rivits and replacing them after electroplating the centre?

    Any advice appreciated.

They are aluminium alloy rivets which we buy from a specialist manufacturer in Birmingham that have the style as a standard item.

The minimum order quantity is 100 pieces and I will re-order in the next few days.

They are easy to drill out with a little care and the fan will only fit in one location so there is generally no reason to rebalance and any re-finishing will have little effect.

    Mike,

I had never considered selling them but would be happy to pass them along.

They cost me about $35 per hundred with postsgae but if I bought more I would think that the price would reduce.

I would be happy to send someone a bagful and let them pass them along in the US as it would probably be more cost effective than pposting them out from the UK.

We have a suitable tool to set them with and I am sure I could make a batch of these very easily at a sensible cost.

We ended up just making them and also a tool to put the dome heads on the inside. Buying them is clearly cheaper. In case it helps we have also just made a batch of brand new centres. I will find a pic in case it helps.
