Trouble with hot start? and how much to rebuild throtle bodies?

I have a 1969 E that I have taken back to mfi, my mechanic is having some issues with the car not starting hot.

Anyone have some helpful tips on what we should be looking for to get the car to hot start?

and the throttle bodies need to be rebuilt, who can does a good job rebuilding them and how much does it run?

    Thanks.

I perform this service although I'm more readily known for my Weber, Solex and Zenith service.

I just had mine redone at Eurometrix. Fantastic job, though of course I am not in a position to compare with Paul's work above...
It cost me $1500 to have them totally redone.

Here is the link to the Eurometrix site. All pricing is available therein. Matt's work is top notch and he is honest, reliable and very willing to get on the phone and answer your questions.

Yeah, I have heard good things about him, I like the way he flow tests everything so you are ready to go when you get the throttle body back.

    Eli,

Matt did my throttle bodies back in '03 (10 years ago ... ) and they were perfect.....

Please forgive me, I need to ask this just to make sure...

We're realizing the basic starting procedure for an MFI car hot is pretty much the opposite of starting it cold... Yes?

Hot - Hand throttle down (off), and gas pedal down ...
Cold - Hand throttle all the way up (on), foot completely off the gas pedal...

Again, sorry for the obvious, but needed to ask...

    Cheers,
    cm

I believe the hand throttle just tugs on the cable from the accelerator pedal. Mine doesn't have enough pull to richen the mixture enough to start the first time cold because of the lack of thermostat, so it is foot to the floor, crank start once, twice, third time it keeps running.

Chuck thanks for the info, my car did not have a hand throttle in it before I got it, so we had to add it.

The whole mfi thing is new to me because I only got the car recently, and before that the PO had some kind of non-working CIS in it that we took out.

And someone tell me if this is incorrect but if you are having trouble starting the car when it is at temp. you should turn the key till fuel pump is running and let it run for awhile before starting. The explanation I read was that there can be hot gas in the mfi and it can cause a vapor lock or some such and that by letting the fuel pump run it helps clear out the gasoline vapor.

Eli, I heard the same thing a few years ago about letting the electric fuel pump run and circulate the fuel before starting a hot/warm engine. This procedure will help cool down the fuel circulating from the fuel tank to the fuel filter then through the MFI pump fuel head and back to the tank but will not do anything for the fuel that's already in the injection lines between the pressure valves on top of the MFI pump to the injectors in the head. Only turning over the engine/starting will move that fuel. The procedure is not incorrect and has worked for me after a fast run up the mountains on a warm day and stopping for a photo shoot. After 10 minutes or so engine would not start after several tries. So I let the electric fuel pump run for a minute or so and it fired right up.

Looks like I have a bad Thermo time Switch that is causing the solenoid on the MFI to not work properly when the car is warm.

Still no cheap fix for the throttle body rebuild.
