    Wood dash trim finish

I'm restoring my '66 and was able to score an original wood dash trim with aluminum backing. The wood trim is currently weathered and faded. There are too many varied finishes I've seen on line. SOme are glossy while some are matte. Can anyone describe how the wood dash trim should be finished.? Photos of an original untouched wood trim in good conditiion would be much appreciated.

    Regards,

    Jay

Hah! good comment Ed. I like to think of it more as final touches of "costume jewelry" for the "before" look I want to set up as one of two looks for the car. Besides the dash badges this look will include the Mcafee wheels, S front bumper, the 4 pipe exhaust and the webers - exactly as the original owner had evolved it to back in the day. I'm thinking the trick is to not leave the plaques on too long at any given time so the 2 sided tape does not stain the wood again.

The "after" look I am now building will be more towards the "as it left the factory" - clean wood dash, stock chrome wheels, correct bumpers, solex's, original exhaust.

Hopefully I can get all this to come together so its not too big job to swap back and forth between the styles. At least that's the plan.

After further research and much help from this board, I think I have been able to achieve the correct look and finish for the wooden dash for a '66.

I would be happy to. Let me get details from my friend who owns/designs a high end furniture line and is also a car collector. I should be able to come back with details mid next week. Thanks by the way for the kind comments.
