    Original option for a plastic 85L tank on a 1973 2.4E or 2.4S?

How did a customer ordering a 1973 2.4E or 2.4S specify they wanted a plastic 85L fuel tank? Was there an option code for this or was it ordered some other way? I searched through the forums but haven't been able to find anything that mentioned how you actually ordered these new. Did Porsche just randomly install them sometimes in 2.4E or 2.4S based on their inventory levels running low of the regular tank?

As you may know these were only for R.O.W. application, what I don't know is whether they were standard there or an option? We need an answer from a European member.

I think all, or at least most, Australian delivered 1973 E's and S's (not sure about all 2.4's) had the plastic tank. there was an option code (option 424: which also covered the space saver tyre) for it but at least here in Australia I think it was on the standard list of options selected by the official importer in specifying that years model features (as were S instruments, trim and front spoiler for 2.4E's: option 470). That is how it is shown on my car - ie the options are mentioned on a COA.

    Hugh is right.
Option 424 covered an 85litre tank including a space saver wheel. ("85 - L Tank mit Notrad").
It was optional for the 1973 911T (at 380.-. DM) but standard on the 911E and 911S.

My 72S German manual shows the air bottle for the space saver. My 73S Italian manual shows the compressor. I do not know what chassis the change occured but my 73, Oct 72 buiid, came with the air bottle. So the option must've included one or the other.

in France for 1973 model : 2.4 E or S come with a 85 liters as standard - The S may have an optional 110 liters - The T has a 62 liter. The 85 liters fuel tank s dsigned to host the new Goodrich space saver spare wheel with an eletrical air compressor.

Keep in mind that in 1973 the road regulations are not yet harmonised through Europe...

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

My Germany delivered 1972 MY 911E has the 85 liter plastic fuel tank listed among the other options:
"424, Kraftstoffbehaelter 85 ltr mit Notrad"

In the 80's when I brought many 911's into the country, I noticed all the 73 cars in Germany had plastic tanks, including the T's. I am currently finishing a 73S Italian coupe and it has a plastic tank from new. I assumed all euro cars in 73 had a plastics tank.

Rick, i don want to be picky, but I own the above noted pricelist for German market 1973 cars.
If 'all" German/RoW market cars had plastic tanks, then they got ordered optional on T's, because it was not standard for the T.

Here is the info for Option 424. German Pricelist August 1st. 1972
