    Headlight switch (strangely numbered)

On my 73 Italian rs, I have a headlight switch with number 911.613.029.00. I see 029.01 and 029.03 when I am shopping for a replacement, but never 029.00. Is it such that the 00 number was a 1973 production number and it superceeded to the 01 and 03. If that is the case, does it matter if I get an 01 or 03?

    Thanks.

    Hi John,

You should have a 911.613.212.00 for an Italian car. USA and Canadian cars had 911.613.029.00 as headlight switch in 72/73. BTW, this is according the spare parts manual. I don't know what is different in function between USA/ROW...01 and 03 are probably later version.

I think the only difference between the '212.00' (which, as Cees said, is what your car should have) & the USA/Canada version '029.03' is that the latter has the rubber cover (plus plastic 'legend') over the knob.

If you buy a new (or good used) US-spec switch, all you'll need to do is remove the rubber cover (& swap your chrome bezel over to the new switch).

You might also want to swap your original knob over to the new switch so that it matches the patina of the other dash switch knobs.

Thanks guys. I told you I was confused! It's strange having that number switch in the car. I just found a 212 on ebay. Thanks again!
