    Proper radio for 70?

Can anybody tell me if this radio out of a 71 would be correct for a 70?
    Thanks,
    Rob

I believe that's a Frankfurt Stereo US, Model 7.632.629, made for the 1972-73 Porsche model year. Not perfect for a '71.

For 1970 you want a Bluapunkt code of 7.630. Unless you have a show car or are trying to bring the care back to it's original state, the radio you have will look fine.

Since it is a "stereo" version would not be correct for pre '74 unless speakers were added in the door or rear shelf with speakers were added. If there is a label on the side with Alpha prefix it would tell you date of mfg. Hope this helps.

    +1 (from what I've learned)
ALSO, contrary to what was mentioned above, this would not be right for a 72-73 due to the wrong (earlier) bezel.

It's difficult to make a call on "correct" with radios as many of them were incorrect when installed because many, if not most, were installed by dealers. If there isn't a radio listed on your CoA that was installed by the factory, then correctness gets murky.

If a radio was installed by the dealer, it could have been just about anything, even something that wasn't available on date of manufacture, as cars could sometimes sit for months before they were sold.

The only way you can be sure of the correctness of the radio in your car is if it's listed on your CoA or original bill of sale. Other than that you can only approximate.

I agree with everyone completely, so the date code is what this is really all about.
