Correct air box for a carbureted 71T?

    Hello,
I found this two metal air boxes, one has a regular fitting on the back and the other one has a T fitting, my car came with Weber carburators and I am trying to find out which one its the correct one, also it's the correct snorkel the long one with the hose fitting at the end?

    Thank You.

The top one is for carbs. The bottom one is for MFI

To add to Jim's I.D. all cars with a charcoal cannister (70-73) would have had the 'T' fitting. The small end is for the cannister vent hose.

I am a little confuse now, my 71 it's a US version and I think it did come with that canister up front, so the correct one will be the T fitting?

Let me add to the confusion... Your 71 T probably had Zeniths originally. It probably had a plastic air box in 71. The top one you show is for carbs no tank vent. The lower one is for MFI because it has the cold start fittings. You can use either but likely neither is 100% correct.

    Snorkel sounds right.

Thanks, I just finished the engine build. No the car came with Zeniths, but during the build, I switched to Webers. I am much more familiar with Webers, and I couldn't seem to get the Zeniths to run right. The back of the housing does have the T fitting in place. As far as correctness goes, the 71 T's came with both metal and plastic air cleaner housings. Since the COA would never say, it's really anybodys guess which is correct for your car. As with all Porsche models, the factory used up what parts they had in the bin first, before switching to the replacement part. It would probably be safe to assume that early build date 71's still had metal, and later build date 71's switched to plastic.
