Met Scott Hicks & chatted about 'Freedom' 1982 Movie, starring a 930

My daughter is in the same class as the great director Scott Hick's grandson.....& there was a class party over the weekend for his birthday my daughter was invited to. I was pleasantly surprised to see hanging in his home the front badge from the 930 that starred in the movie framed with a picture of the silver car and a poster of the film! Neat.

Chatting to Scott upon seeing it- a really engaging and approachable guy- he said there was an interesting story to it.

The 930 that ended up over the ravine was a mock up.

The 930 that appeared in the film was genuine but the car that was "wrecked" at the film's culmination was built on an early 911 that was half buggered to begin with. Panels, rims, intercooler and whale tail were all added & Scott told me the wrecked 930 mule was pulled up out of the valley after being destroyed for filming- I know where this was filmed and it's a deep, deep ravine so that would have taken some doing- but that the 'baddies' black Dodge was left down there. He said the 930 wreck was displayed up on the wall in an Adelaide garage/workshop, but it's whereabouts aren't known today.

The badge framed in his grandson's house came from this car.

I love the film and remember when it was being filmed. One scene was filmed in what became my father's Mercedes-Benz business, where a salesman character flips off the young star who is looking at a 300SL Gullwing in the old Adelaide Mercedes showroom. I was there as a 11 year old that day.

Scott said the old Dodge is still down there somewhere at the bottom of the ravine, and that he'd like to hike down there one day to find it.

I should put a posse together and go look for it one day with him.
