    FS: 1970 Euro Blaupunkt Köln

This one is sold, I have another A-Code 1968/1969 see below
    I sell my 1970 Köln.
I've tested it and everything including Station scanning works fine.
Asking 450$ shipped. It will be delivered with Chrome bezel, and Porsche knobs, but no rear part of the fuse holder.
    Cheers

    Uli

That's amazing to me that a 1970 radio was still two pieces. I had always read that the Koln and the Frankfurt radios were the same except for the scanning feature of the Koln but to the best of my knowledge Frankfurt's stopped being two pieces in the early to mid 1960's. I assume the second piece serves to hold the power supply and to keep any interference from the same away from the radio itself. Comments?

Hi Köln were still 2 piece, as e.g. the later Bamberg with casette.
I think (sorry - I'm not into electronics) the external Chassis is the Amp as the Speaker connectors are there.
In the Köln the space right of the scale is used for the mechanics.
Here a comparison shot. Left Frankfurt (67/68) right Köln (1970)

Even top end Bekkers were 2 piece into the mid 70's. I like to think that it was because the amp was more powerful (20 watts probably vs 10 watts) and could not fit.

Hunh, you're right I see that Mexico's were still 2 parts in 1970. I believe the non top of the line radios were 6 amps so it's pretty neat to see the Mexico's and Koln's had more power. I've read that the radios at the end of the tube car radio era were designed to try to match the sound of the tube car radios and indeed my 1964 Frankfurt sounds great. But by the 1970's the radios to me sounded like crap. I have a BMW with a 1974 Blauplunkt and it's not happening sonicly. The 1970 Frankfurt in the 911 sounds ok though not as good as the 1964 model. Of course that could also be speaker placement. Having the speaker aimed toward the windscreen is less then optimal and gets further degraded when I have the sun roof open. Another sonic data point is in the 1964 car I tried quite a few speakers and found the cheapest ones sounded the best. Better speakers just brought out more crap/noise whereas the cheaper speaker sounds pretty great, of course given 1964 monophonic standards.

    Alternatively I have a 68-69 Köln (A-Code) - tested and working.
It has the rare KV 900 Shortwave addon (not tested).
Asking 600$ for the combo shipped.
