Looking to understand how easy it is to fit the S alloy callipers to my standard '66 hardware. Any advice gratefully received.

The two ears on the strut that hold the S Callipers are further apart than your standred callipers. It is not a direct bolt on. There may be a modified adapter you could by. Also a 1966 uses a non-vented disk, those need changed to a vented type.

I'm waiting for the struts to come off a 67S so I can reproduce the 3.5 inch S adaptor plate for S or Boxster calipers . The other solution is to call Eric at PMB Performance and go with a aluminum Brembo he sells that match the 3 inch strut spacing of the early cars. It has 48mm front pistons like the S caliper. I have a set on my 67. Here is a picture. I've added 908 pins. Pete Stout saw them and now he has a set on his 914. Or buy a SC or Carrera front suspension.

The Koni and Boge struts for the 1965 thru 1967 (maybe 1968) brake calipers were mounted via a separate plate.
This plate is a 4 bolt mount to the strut.
Years ago a aluminum plate 3/4" or so thick was machined to the four bolts and relived for the axel and had the 3.5" hole mount for the 911S Aluminum calipers. A race shop out of Minneapolis - Karrousel Motor sports - had them made, late 1970's early 1980's. Ran them for a year until it moved the car to ASP class.
Completely different than the 1969> with the attachment forming a "Y".

I have a company that does race car work. If I bring them the 4 bolt part they can make me as many as needed.

I made a set of aluminum adapters to install aluminum calipers on my 67S many years ago and the adapters need to be designed to mount caliper body to clear the disc diameter and provide radial alignment of larger brake pads on the friction surface of the disc. Also, the caliper needs the adapter to have the correct offset so the center of the caliper (between the brake pads) is aligned with the center of the thickness of the disc. I believe there is a step in my adapters that adjust caliper axially to center the caliper and the bar stock I used was 5/8" thick as I recall.
