    Sport Seat identification question...

I just bought a 1973 sunroof coupe and it came with Recaro seats that have the sport seat Hardware...the bottom flip up bracket, hinges, and 73 headrest but they don't look like the typical sport seats out there. Are these a different model of sport seat? or maybe the previous owner had them recovered and modified to look like a 80's style recaro seat by reshaping the seat back side foam? It's definitely the correct looking hardware, I have owned 2 other Porsches with sport seats.

    Any info is appreciated!

This particular seat model is the Ideal S seat which I was corrected on recently by a European member even though I have the same seat in one of my cars..
very sought after not cut down as suggested but generally circa 1973/74 just prior to the turbo highback seat introduction.
With recaro insignia generally considered aftermarket purchase but could also have been an option , Bert

It looks like they are the Recaro Ideal S seats. Does the headrest pivot? If so, I would doubt that they are converts from a newer Recaro with a one piece back. I have a set in my 73 as well! Very comfortable seat...

Edit: I suppose one could put original headrests on a newly converted seat. IMO, the OP's seats have that original look to them.

Agree with others, Aftermarket Recaro Ideal S....NEVER a factory option, although a dealer would do anything to move iron.

The frames appear to be some kind of hybridized SWB frame......the sliders with the drop downs are definately SWB. Can't see frames really well but look to be the simpler SWB tilt frame with a seat belt mount drilled into the side.

Thank you for all the great information on the seats!

To get them reupholstered to look period correct, would I use similar black vinyl to the traditional sport seats?

I'm located in Los Angeles, if anyone knows of a good upholstery shop in the area please let me know.

The one listed on Pelican is mine, and we modified it. I think the easiest way to tell if you have a later converted seat or the Ideal S is the mounting. The converted seat is narrower and typically requires an adapter plate to install in an early car. If you need upholstery work, PM or email me. We are in Van Nuys.

BTW, I just got the COA on the 73 coupe. It lists Sport Seats, so these did come with the car.

So this might mean the Ideal S seats would have been a factory installed option for 73.
